Bailedbailed

This one didn't bring me in. Not bad, just too slow moving for my taste. It is about a woman still grieving her son and missing lots of work because her child disappeared 20 years ago. She is rather unlikeable. Then someone mails her dad what might be the child's shoe, and takes forever to tell her, bit by bit, what his suspicions are. I bailed a little over a third in.

SamAnne Yeah, it‘s a slow one. I liked the backdrop for the story though. 3y
LitStephanie @SamAnne me too. I enjoyed the descriptions of the landscape and working life in the village 3y

Super late reviewing this one! I really enjoyed it. The setting definitely made the book for me. I also enjoyed the twists, but it was definitely a slow-moving mystery. The plot unwound in its own time, which I actually thought made it kind of unique. The plot revolves around a dead serial killer and whether or not he was somehow involved in the disappearance of a little boy on the alvar some years ago. #LMPBC #groupI @suvata

I really enjoyed the plot and there was even a twist I didn‘t see coming which is always welcome. I loved the author‘s writing style and I adored the atmosphere of Oland. I just didn‘t like how much of a slow burn it was.

#Booked2021 - translated to English and main character was a nurse

magyklyXdelish @Alfrazier21 I‘ll mail it out on Monday 🤗 3y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds intriguing! Just a note, though, we really only have one “rule” for #booked2021 and that‘s that we not double up on prompts. So ... one book = one prompt. Hope you don‘t mind me dropping in about that. ♥️📚 3y

Cathythoughts I loved this short series ❤️❤️❤️ 3y
magyklyXdelish @BarbaraTheBibliophage no worries! I‘ll keep this for the nurse prompt since I think finding another translated book will be easier than finding a nurse/dr one that actually interests me lol 3y
Cinfhen Woohoo!!! And thanks for sharing our one & only “rule” @BarbaraTheBibliophage 3y
Alfrazier21 @magyklyXdelish Sounds good! I‘m excited to read it! 3y

Just wanted to check in, bc I haven't gotten my next book yet for #LMPBC #GROUPI, and haven't heard that Echoes from the Dead got to @magyklyXdelish safely either! It should have arrived on the 11th according to their expected arrival date @SamAnne @Alfrazier21 @suvata

magyklyXdelish I got mine and I‘m currently reading it. I thought I tagged you in one of my posts sorry 3y
rjsthumbelina Lol! And you might have, it could have just fallen out of my brain...just wanted to make sure that you had it! 😁 3y
rjsthumbelina I think I did get the 2 I sent out mixed up. @booksellerofyourdiscontent have you received Children of the New World yet for #groupv? 3y

wisherwishinguponastar I did. I think I responded in one of our group messages about it. I am going to start it this weekend! I think most mail is just crazy right now. If next month is late that is fine. 3y
SamAnne @rjsthumbelina yours should arrive Tuesday--& with two books. No Safe Place & Lying in Wait. Apologies I thought I'd wait until after New Year's to let the USPS get caught up. Then Jan. 6 just sent me into a hole, horrified at what was happening in D.C. So then I was going to get them out on this past Tuesday, and we were hit with a severe two day windstorm with downed trees, lost power. But there are extra treats in your package!!
3y
SamAnne @rjsthumbelina I went ahead and sent the next book, Lying in Wait. The book just didn't do it for me in the first couple chapters. I'm having a terrible reading slump, and just thought it would be better to send along. 3y
rjsthumbelina @SamAnne no worries! I totally get it. I've been in a slump the past couple weeks, and I think most people are horrified by what's going on in our country. I just wanted to make sure nothing got lost in the mail! 3y

Night before Thanksgiving. Usually I‘m throwing a big party featuring enchiladas w/ mole sauce made from peppers I‘ve grown. Instead a quiet evening with wine, chocolate, dog, man and this slow burn thriller mystery. @Alfrazier21 @magyklyXdelish @rjsthumbelina I loved being immersed in the Swedish island Oland and the alvar. Reminded me of a slow burn Tana French but with more twists. Would read another book from this series. #LMPBC.

Alfrazier21 I can‘t wait to read this one!! 3y
SamAnne Will put it in the mail to @rjsthumbelina on Friday! 3y

My first dice into Nordic Noir! Murder mystery set on an island off Sweden. I‘m hooked. My #LMPBC read with @rjsthumbelina @magyklyXdelish @Alfrazier21

SamAnne And #TodayIlearned that an alvar is a unique limestone plain ecosystem that floods in spring and has drought in summer. They are found in Northern Europe, Canada and U.S. Great Lakes area. The largest alvar in Northern Europe is found on the Swedish island Oland. It is a UNESCO world heritage site. And the setting for this Nordic murder mystery!! Queue the dense fog!! #NFN2020. @rsteve388 @Clwojick (edited) 3y

Set in Oland , an island barely off the coast of Sweden I loved this quartet/series , very much because the author loves this island , his mothers people are from Oland. The books made me want to go there, a great sense of place & the stories are haunting. Another I‘d like to reread.
I see he had a book out in 2014 👍🏻, I must look that up.

Thrift store haul today... already own "quiet" on my kindle but thought it was worth owning in paperback. The other looks pretty interesting as well.

RinaBrahmbhattBarot Hey where is this wonderful store --- quiet is on my TBR and I so badly want to read this book (but my new year resolution is that I'll either buy from thrift store or swap (library is an option) but haven't been able to visit one yet!!! Enjoy #BookHaul 7y
