Girl in White Gloves: A Novel of Grace Kelly
Girl in White Gloves: A Novel of Grace Kelly | Kerri Maher

"Perfect for fans of Grace Kelly, royal-watchers, and fans of biographical fiction alike.--PopSugar A Library Reads Pick and Historical Novel Society Editor's Choice! A life in snapshots... Grace knows what people see. She's the Cinderella story. An icon of glamor and elegance frozen in dazzling Technicolor. The picture of perfection. The girl in white gloves. A woman in living color... But behind the lens, beyond the panoramic views of glistening Mediterranean azure, she knows the truth. The sacrifices it takes for an unappreciated girl from Philadelphia to defy her family and become the reigning queen of the screen. The heartbreaking reasons she trades Hollywood for a crown. The loneliness of being a princess in a fairy tale kingdom that is all too real. Hardest of all for her adoring fans and loyal subjects to comprehend, is the harsh reality that to be the most envied woman in the world does not mean she is the happiest. Starved for affection and purpose, facing a labyrinth of romantic and social expectations with more twists and turns than Monaco's infamous winding roads, Grace must find her own way to fulfillment. But what she risks--her art, her family, her marriage--she may never get back.

Oh how I wanted to love this story!! I‘m not sure if it‘s the fact that I‘m coming off of a reading high from Arctic Fury, whether the narrator didn‘t work for me, or what but I couldn‘t get into this one. I found Grace Kelly to be such an unhappy person, never satisfied being a Hollywood starlet/princess and who made each decision with open eyes. I wanted to love her but found her whiny. I did enjoy the peek behind the curtain feel. 🌟🌟🌟⬇️

candc320 Oh forgot to mention this was my #doublebookspin for #bookspinbingo! 4y

This was so good. It's a fictional version of Grace Kelly's life. This really sucked me in. I definitely recommend it.

Before I start writing on this... Here is my December #BookSpinBingo grid. My #BookSpin is tagged. My #DoubleSpin is Ready Player Two which I'm slightly nervous to read since the first book is one of my favorites but at the same time I am also 😍😍😍😍.

@TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks I just started Ready Player Two today!! I think I like it, but we'll see where he goes with it. Can't wait to hear your thoughts, too!! 4y

Loved this one — a must for Grace Kelly fans and a lovely, intriguing look at the woman behind the legend. Not sure how long the sale lasts, but check your favorite e-book retailer.

Grace Kelly led quite the life. This wasn‘t my favorite read this year but it was written well.

I know some haven‘t found this story engaging but I did. There was something about having a fictitious voyeur like window to see how possibly her romance with her prince played out. I have long adored Grace Kelly and this was an entertaining read for me.

🌟🌟🌟 I am having a tough time finding a good audiobook that I can enjoy and focus on without having to go back and “relisten” the same parts over and over. I think I‘ve been listening to so many thrillers/suspenses that everything else is sort of monotonous. 🤷‍♀️ The story was somewhat interesting but it read more like a non-fiction biography written about someone who you think you should care about but their actual life story is sort of dull.

Style, class, panache, radiance…these are just a few words to describe Grace Kelly, who was so aptly named. I really wanted to love this book. I have been a big fan of Grace Kelly since I was a young girl. But no. The language of the book is so flowery - five adjectives where two would have been sufficient. At the end, I felt the author painted Grace as an insecure and shallow woman. I have read so many historical fiction novels recently where the women were strong despite or because of circumstances and this portrait of Grace did not convey that.
