Odin's Child, Volume 1
Odin's Child, Volume 1 | Siri Pettersen
12 posts | 5 read | 15 to read
An epic fantasy trilogy from Norway about thousand-year-old secrets, forbidden romance, and what happens to those who make a deal with the devil comes at last to the United States! "Imagine lacking something that everyone else has. Something that proves you belong to this world. Something so vital, that without it, you are nothing. A plague. A myth. A human." Fifteen winters old, Hirka learns that she is an Odin's child - a tailless rot from another world. Despised. Dreaded. And hunted. She no longer knows who she is, and someone wants to kill her to keep it a secret. But there are worse things than humans, and Hirka is not the only creature to have broken through the gates... 'Odin's Child' is unique fantasy with Norse roots. An epic clash of xenophobia, blind faith and the right or will to lead. The first in a trilogy, Odin's Child is a thrilling modern fantasy epic.

Heads up, this exists in English now, not sure how I missed it. YA fantasy with Nordic mythology and folklore undertones. Hurry and read!!

This book was a big surprise. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but it only took a few sentences and I was sunken deep into this fantastical world. Petterson took her time building a fantastical world with its traditions, believes and people. The book feels different from other fantasy titles, unique, and special

My last recipe for the #FoodAndLit journey to #Norway was a tiny bunch of Lefser. I'm new to the whole baking thing, so they might not look like much. But I'm content with myself, since I've overcome my fears of working with flour and they don't even taste that bad 😄

But now it's time to pack and move on to #Russia soon!

@Butterfinger @Texreader

AnneCecilie They like fine to me. Only thing is considering the shape, they look more like lompe than lefse. I like both. 3y
Jari-chan @AnneCecilie Haha, thank you 😁 I tried to get them into shape, but as you see, I failed 😂 3y
Texreader They look perfect! 3y

Jari-chan @Texreader Aww, thank you ❤️ 3y
AnneCecilie What did you have on them/ eat them with? 3y
Jari-chan @AnneCecilie Sour cream, sweet cream, pudding, and one with only sugar and cinnamon 😊😋 3y

Some more treats from #Norway I've tried for #FoodandLit

Reindeer sausage: Tastes different from all the other sausages I know. Very, very nice. From a family run organic farm in Norway.
Flatbrød: Really fun to play around with - Norwegians seem to like playful food 😂
Ostepops: Sooo nice! Norwegians sure know how to do snacks!
Sørlandchips: Not as fatty as ours, and therefore awesome.

Nero: If you like chocolate AND licorice that's the perfect combo (yes, I like it!)
Smil: Brings back memories.
Rømmegrøl: The first time in my life I've had groats, I guess.

AnneCecilie I love Ostepops, but technically that brand is Swedish. And Smil really brings a smile on your face. (edited) 3y
Jari-chan @AnneCecilie Oh no, the Norway shop has lied to me! 😱 😂 But they're so tasty, I don't even care 😋 3y
AnneCecilie I completely understand. But they do sell a lot in Norway. After seeing your post I had to buy a bag too. 3y
Jari-chan @AnneCecilie Enjoy your Ostepops! 🤩 3y

Finally got to taste the famous Kvikk Lunsj from #Norway for #FoodandLit 😁 It does taste like KitKat, but it has a bit more chocolate I think. Therefore I agree, it's better than KitKat 👍

@Butterfinger @Texreader

wanderinglynn And now I‘m curious about Kvikk Lunsj. 3y
Jari-chan @wanderinglynn It really is worth a try 😊 3y
Texreader You and the fam definitely agree then. Norwegian chocolate is delicious and certainly better than American chocolate so that too could explain the difference. Could you read the wrapper or was it in Norwegian? 3y

Moony Ohh yeah, the firat and aecond book are also on my #tbrpile ❤️ 3y
Jari-chan @Texreader Definitely agree 😁 The wrapping was in Norwegian, since the owners of the shop get their products directly from Norway. But since Norwegian isn't that far from Danish I could put together most of the text 😄 3y
Jari-chan @Moony I also want to read the next books! ❤ 3y

Morning break with another discovery from #Norway - warm currant juice. Smells and tastes like Christmas, it was the perfect drink for such a rainy morning.

#FoodandLit @Butterfinger @Texreader

Texreader Yay! Something with slightly more flavor 3y

Yesterday I've had Raspeballer and Ertestuing ordered from the Swiss #Norway shop. These pre-made foods sure need more seasoning for my taste, but they make such a fun dish! I felt like a child again, playing with my dinner 😆

Happily, the content of those pouches are big enough that dinner is already fixed for the next couple of days 😅

#FoodandLit @Texreader @Butterfinger

lazydaizee Interesting food , I have not heard of these before. Is it made from chickpeas or sweetcorn? 3y
Jari-chan @nuttybooklady It's made from green peas. Tastes very interesting and different. 3y
AnneCecilie As a general rule, Norwegians doesn‘t like much taste in their food. 3y
Jari-chan @AnneCecilie Well, that's good to know 😁 3y
Texreader @AnneCecilie That‘s been my experience but was trying not to say it... 😉 3y

Tried my first recipe for our #FoodandLit journey to #Norway - it's called Pyttipanna. It was nice, but didn't blew me. Let's see what the next dish will bring 😊

@Texreader @Butterfinger

Texreader I‘m not familiar with this. Hope you find something you like better!! 3y
Jari-chan @Texreader I'm sure I will 😊 3y
AnneCecilie I don‘t like this either. I think it‘s supposed to be made of leftovers. @Texreader 3y
Jari-chan @AnneCecilie You're right. It actually is a leftover dish. 3y

My order for our #FoodandLit journey to #Norway arrived! 🤩 Just had to zo order some Smil - they remind me of Denmark ♥️

@Texreader @Butterfinger

Chrissyreadit This looks like fun! Where did you order from? 3y
TheBookHippie What fun!!! 3y
Texreader The husband loved your post!! The fam loves Kvikk Lunsj (except me because I think they‘re just Kit Kats in disguise). The wrappers though are a hoot! 3y

Texreader @Chrissyreadit Are you in the US? I can give you some suggestions if so 3y
Jari-chan @Chrissyreadit I got it from a Swiss store, run by Norway enthusiasts 😄
@TheBookHippie It is! Can't wait to try all these treats!
@Texreader I've never had Kvikk Lunsj before, but they sure look like Kit Kats 😅 I wonder if they taste the same. Time to find out!
3y
Texreader @Jari-chan Husband said Kvikk Lunsj is much better than Kit Kats. I‘m sure you‘ve figured out the Norwegian name means Quick Lunch (edited) 3y
Chrissyreadit @Texreader yes I‘d love some suggestions- I‘m vegan- and was trying to figure out how I will know ingredients. 3y
Jari-chan @Texreader Now I hope my expectations haven't grown to much 😂 3y
Texreader @Chrissyreadit I‘ll have to chat with the husband. Norwegians are definitely meat and dairy folk! 3y
Chrissyreadit @Texreader I was thinking of doing flatbread and lingonberry jam but need to find ingredients in English 3y
Texreader @Chrissyreadit That would work! Do you have Pinterest? I‘m pretty sure I‘ve added flatbread recipes. If not I‘d be happy to post them here on Litsy 3y
Texreader @Chrissyreadit There are vegan Norwegian recipes on Pinterest. Also vegannorway.com 3y
Texreader @Chrissyreadit The raspeballer in the photo should be vegan: potato dumplings. 3y

I love this dedication so much! ???

"To the one who was always reading books no one had heard of. The weirdo at the back of the classroom."

I feel both called out and seen at the same time! ??

Of course, the 'reading books no one had heard of' was before Litsy! ???

ravenlee Did I just stack a book entirely on the strength of its dedication? No, not entirely...but almost. 3y

GingerAntics The book sounds really interesting, too. I look forward to hearing what you think of it. I may have to read this as well. 3y
Branwen @GingerAntics I was drawn to it in the store and hadn't heard of it before. But something pulled me in and I took a chance on it and bought it! I'm excited to read it and tell you what I think! 3y
