The Fionavar Tapestry (Trilogy)
The Fionavar Tapestry (Trilogy) | Guy Gavriel Kay
9 posts | 10 read | 16 to read
In the three novels that make up the Fionavar Tapestry trilogy collected in this omnibus edition (The Summer Tree, The Wandering Fire, and The Darkest Road), five University of Toronto students find themselves transported to a magical land to do battle with the forces of evil. At a Celtic conference, Kimberley, Kevin, Jennifer, Dave, and Paul meet wizard Loren Silvercloak. Returning with him to the magical kingdom of Fionavar to attend a festival, they soon discover that they are being drawn into the conflict between the dark and the light. Praise for Guy Gavriel Kay "[Kay] stunningly weaves Arthurian legends into the fluid mix of Celtic, Nordic, and Teutonic, creating a grand fantasy that sweeps readers into a heroic struggle that the author makes all the more memorable because of the tributes he pays to past masters. Kay is undoubtedly one of the Canadian masters of high fantasy." Jeffrey Canton Kay is a genius. Brandon Sanderson As captivating as any classic of the fantasy field. Macleans Can only be compared to Tolkiens masterpiece. This is a series to cherish and reread. The Star-Phoenix The essence of high fantasy. Locus

(Day 5: Grey) I had a hard time finding grey, but then I remembered these gems. Kay helped Tolkien‘s son edit The Silmarillion. Then Kay wrote his own High Fantasy trilogy. These may not be for everyone, but if you love beautiful prose and can handle heartbreak when favorite characters die—and they will die—you may like these. If not, try his later work. #ColormePretty #PhotoChallenge #fantasy @Sweetkokoro

Lucy_Anywhere The Lions of Al-Rassan is the only book of his that I've read, and I loved it even if it broke my heart! I need to read more of his books 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @Lucy_Anywhere That was such a good book! I love how he twists the knife in your heart with all his books. 5y

This was just announced today as a potential tv adaptation!! 🙌🙌🙌

Even though I still don't have a jet pack or a flying car...the future is pretty fantastic sometimes!

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Jeez, that cover. I bought the whole trilogy from a used book store, but haven‘t gotten to them yet. 6y

Big news!!! Guy Gavriel Kay has entered an agreement with the company that did "Orphan Black" to turn The Fionavar Tapestry into a television series!

I have always enjoyed Guy Gavriel Kay's novels. I find them insightful and meandering. They always leave me contemplating life and it's complexities. I also love that he's a Canadian author too!

Spent an hour with a clerk looking for this book at the only shop in town. The best we can surmise is that someone hid it in a special place so that they can read it at leisure. This chaps my arse since it was my first choice to send my #WinterSolsticeBookExchange #SecretSantaGoesPostal person.

Theresa Well that sucks. 😡 I hope you come up with a backup idea for Secret Santa. 7y
BookishMarginalia 🤔I guess you found it! 😁 7y
drokka @BookishMarginalia Yeah, there's a lady who works there and she's always helping to find misplaced books in the shop. When she found out about it she rang me to tell me the sister shop had a copy and she asked them to hold it for me. For obvious reasons I didn't want to announce that when I found out. 😉 7y

It's way too early in the morning for me to drag this one off of the shelf for a picture, but it's my pick for a #darkfantasy. Actually I like to call most of Kay's work "emo fantasy" and this one is the most emo. #AllHallowsRead @Litsy
