For Butter or Worse: A Novel | Erin La Rosa
9 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
With great tension, simmering heat, and clever banter, FOR BUTTER OR WORSE is a mouthwateringly delicious enemies-to-lovers romance.Helen Hoang, USA Today bestselling author of The Heart Principle "[A] sparkling romance...witty and lighthearted, with plenty of tender moments to keep readers invested, this work gets the enemies-to-lovers trope right."Publishers Weekly They go together like water and oil All chef Nina Lyon wants is to make a name for herself in the culinary world and inspire young women everywhere to do the same. For too long, shes been held back and underestimated by the male-dominated sphere of professional kitchens, and she's had enough. Now, as co-host of the competitive reality TV series The Next Cooking Champ!, she finally has a real shot at being top tier in the foodie scene. Too bad her co-host happens to be Hollywoods smarmiest jerk. Restaurateur Leo ODonnell never means to get under Ninas skin. It just seems to happen, especially when the cameras are rolling. It's part of the anxiety and stress he has come to know all too well in this line of work. So nothing prepares him for the fallout after he takes one joke a smidge too far and Nina up and quitson live TV. To make matters worse, the two are caught in what looks like a compromising situation by the paparazziand fans of the show go absolutely nuts. Turns out, a secret romance between Nina and Leo may just be what their careers need most. Now all they have to do is play along, without killing each other...and without catching feelings. Easy as artisanal shepherd's pie. Right?

Was way more into the book when it focused on their fake relationship. Except the spice, which felt forced and awkward. I felt myself bored with the rest of it + really disliking Nina + her friends. So much that it made the story drag on and feel like one massive eye roll. Leo had some nice qualities (I really liked his focus on mental health) but otherwise, his family was my favorite part. Left a lot to be desired. The puns were on point tho!

About half way through so far & I‘m loving the chemistry & dates! However, if these two MF-ers say “I couldn‘t help but wonder what it meant” when the other shows affection ONE MORE TIME 🤬🤬🤬🤬 I‘m gonna call the book cops! How could you be so CLUELESS?! Miscommunication is not cute!!!

Did I resort to turning the page on my kindle with my nose, because both hands were occupied by cats? Yes. Yes, I did. 😅

Tonight Pippin and I are starting this fake dating, enemies-to-lovers, GBBO inspired romance. I have this book and one graphic novel to read and I'll have finished all my 2023 reading challenges! Pip is just happy that it's an ebook, so I have a hand free to give him belly rubs.

HeyT I love how when black cats close their eyes in photos they just become the void. I used to have the hardest time capturing our black cat's facial expression in photo. 12mo

I really wanted to like this book, I enjoyed the parts about cooking and reality TV, but the main characters are blah for me - I hate miscommunication as a romance plot device.
Nina and Leo both need to save their respective restaurants but when Nina walks off their TV show they agree to fake date to try to save their businesses. Miscommunication leads to a lot of boring filler.
1.5/5 stars, wanted to like, but just couldn‘t.

During the #reversereadathon I managed to read the last 221 pages of Thank You for Listening, the first 80 pages of For Butter or Worse, and just a bit of my eARC of Forget Me Not. It definitely helped give me a reading boost! @DeweysReadathon

Always hydrated when reading. Especially when the book has steamy love scenes.

I wonderful rom com. With enemies to lovers, but they are the hosts of a cooking show and have to fake date their way to PR redemption. I loved both the characters, and all the side characters. Well paced with punny and fun banter, and the added depth of tackling mental health and treatment of women by the media this is a great book and I can't recommend enough.
