7 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
A witchy rom-com from New York Times bestseller Meg Cabot about a plus size witch who must team up with a handsome stranger to help protect her village from an otherworldly forcebut will she be able to protect her heart? Its magic when you meet your match. Jessica Gold knew the tall stranger was trouble the second he walked inand not just because Jess is a witch. No, Derrick Winters has a message to deliver, but it isnt one Jess wants to hear: Shes the Chosen One. Not chosen by West Harbors snobby elite to style them for the towns tricentennial ball, though Jess owns the chicest clothing boutique in town. And not chosen to be a member of the World Council of Witchesnot that Jess would have said yes, anyway, since shes done with the WCW, and any other organization that tries to dictate what makes a true witch. No, Jess has been chosen by extremely good-looking (but also extremely grumpy) Derrick to help mentor a local teen who might be the savior of West Harbor . . . but only if Jess can teach her to control her immense powers. But just when Jess begins to think that she and Derrick might have a certain magic of their ownand not of the supernatural varietytheyre plunged into an otherworldly battle with an unexpected foe . . . And suddenly Jess finds herself having to make another kind of choice: trust Derrick and work with him to save West Harbor, or use her gifts as she always hasto keep her heart safe, and herself out of trouble. But can she work her magic in time?

Cute love story for sure. Loved the small town setting and the spooky fall plot line. Definitely less on the intellectual side of things and a bit predictable but was perfect for a fun low stakes read

Meg Cabot‘s books can be hit or miss for me. Fortunately, this one was a hit! Is it silly? Yes. Did I see all of the “twists” coming? Also, yes (or almost all of them). Did that make me enjoy it any less? Nope!

I think the only place where Cabot fails is when men share dialog with one another; if I had a nickel for every time a male character called another one “bro” or “man”….👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: I still wouldn‘t have very much money. But that‘s only because these conversations are thankfully far & few between. 😉 I‘ll happily read the next installment in the series (if and when it‘s published). 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I read a book back in December where the one male character used “bro“ so often that my assumption was that he didn't remember the other guy's name and now it was too awkward to ask 😂 2mo

Oh, this was FUN. Maybe not always as deep as I wanted (because I never wanted to leave), but pure entertainment from start to finish. Meg Cabot knows how to be sweet and funny while telling a cohesive story, that's for sure. #romcom #paranormalromance

I‘m over the 107 degree heat indexes & have been sitting with blanket in front of the fan manifesting fall. Not my favorite Meg Cabot but it was cute and fun. 🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️

Omg, this was so cute and so fun! I had the best time reading this and just zipped right through. I liked that it asked us to just believe, and made a point of marking everyone already believe; I find it annoying when the book spends so much time with characters trying to convince other characters that magic is real. All the characters were pretty likeable and I‘m looking forward to the next book.
