It's raining pigs and noodles,
it's pouring frogs and hats

I think this would be fun to use when teaching a poetry lesson to inspire kids, because I think they would relate and pay a lot of attention to this humor.

This AMAZING P book written by Jack Prelutsky is FULL of poetry for elementary aged children! Filled with exciting, witty, and humorous poetry, once you read one poem, you‘ll want more and more! #ucflae3414su20

ashleyshugars This Poetry book would be perfect as a RA. Incorporating and elaborating on 1-2 poems a day can be very beneficial for children! Check out these super awesome scholastic resources: https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/its-raining-pi.... This would be best with UDL strategy 3.3 and ESOL strategy 14! 4y
DrSpalding I own this anthology. Poetry can work nicely as a read aloud but you can also perform choral poetry readings, echo reading etc. Scholastic is a high-quality resource. Expand on the universal design and English learner strategies. I won‘t continue to say that but know I am thinking it if you don‘t explicitly align them to your teaching strategies. 4y

This P book is great for a RA in the classroom. This book has many silly poems that would interest the students and it even has a great variety of poems. My personal favorite was Deep In Our Refrigerator which talked about the food that you leave and let get all moldy because you don't want to throw it away which I can relate to. You can find the author's website at http://jackprelutsky.com/

KatiaP The ESOL strategy I would use is 10 using think, pair, and share after each poem students can talk to each other and tell us what the poem was about. The IDL principle I would use is 2.1 clarify vocabulary and symbols by stopping and talking about certain words he used and talk about the images in the book and their relation to the poem 5y
DrSpalding Reading aloud poetry often is recommended! Just think of the article you read about using poetry especially with reluctant readers in your future classroom. Choral poetry, echo poetry and independent poetry readings work well. They are short and quick and expose students to the beauty of words. 5y

It‘s Raining Pigs and Noodles Poetry/ RA book by Jack Prelutsky is a book of poems that will get students excited and engaged about poems. UDL 3.1 - Activate or supply background knowledge is a great way to check students comprehension of poems prior to teaching a lesson on it. ESOL 10 using think, pair, and share. This will allow students to talk to each other about types of poems that they may have heard of before, or know of. #UCFLAE3414SP20

Kayla_C https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/its-raining-pi.... This resource will allow students to be engaged with several types of poems. 5y
DrSpalding Scholastic is a high-quality resource. This anthology is an excellent one for your classroom library. Often times I would keep anthologies on my easel and when we had time I would have students pick a page number at random. I would then share the poems on that page and discuss poetic elements or figurative language. It is an easy fill in that exposes them to the genre. 5y

This poetry book is a great way to introduce children to poetry. The use of rhyming throughout helps children follow along. The rhyming pattern is very simple so it is suitable for a younger crowd. This book is very playful and filled with poems that are both silly and engaging!

This poem uses the AA BB rhyme scheme and it has a very natural sounding flow throughout the stanzas. It also uses personification when talking about bunnies driving buses.

I think this book, especially this poem specifically, would be helpful in a classroom. It has examples of simple rhymes that can help introduce children to poetry and rhyme.

This would be perfect to start younger kids off with! Or even children who are older that have been turned off from poetry or can‘t find anything they like or have a hard time understanding it. These poems are super silly and may even inspire some kids.

Taking it easy with 4th grade for #PoetryWednesday I try to balance out the heavy and the light. Part of the point is that poetry can be anything you want it to be.
