"If a man has no tea in him, he is incapable of understanding truth and beauty"
The author traces this drink (whose existence is intertwined with the history of humanity) from tea schools, gardens and ceremonies in ancient China, Korea and Japan, to the porcelaine industry, tea as medication, tea trade, contraband and opium wars in India, China and Ceylon, to tea rituals in the UK and the US, to Kenya being today the world's largest tea exporter.

I haven't had much experience with tea. Normally I stick a tea bag in hot water, let it steep and drink it. Sometimes I add a bit of honey. Curious how everyone drinks their tea? Anyone add milk? Favorite flavors?

MissAimz_55 Oh gosh. I'm a tea snob. One of these days I should post a photo of my tea cabinet. I like iced tea a lot but it has to be loose leaf tea. When I have it hot it's also loose leaf. I like strong teas especially black and floral. No sweetener . 7y
Reecaspieces I am also a loose leaf tea girl. I always drink mine hot with lemon. I like a berry flavored in the summer. In the winter I usually go with a spice. 7y
ReadingSusan I love tea! I enjoy loose leaf tea. I don‘t add anything to my tea. I can‘t do caffeine though so I am limited to caffeine free herbal and rooibos tea. 7y
dariazeoli I mostly use bags but do have some loose teas on standby. I rarely add anything to them. Once in a blue moon, I‘ll add agave. 7y
aprilpohren @dariazeoli @ReadingSusan @Reecaspieces @MissAimz_55 missaimzI have only used loose leaf tea a couple of times. It has been so long ago. I will have to give it a shot again. It has a cleaner, crisper flavor doesn't it? @MissAimz_55 would love to see a picture!! I have never tried loose leaf iced tea. 7y

My son just doesn't get it. He sees me with my book and a mug of tea. He says it too hot for tea. I was dumbfounded! It's NEVER too hot for a nice cup of tea and a good book. I don't understand why he doesn't understand. However, he was sweet enough to make me another cup. He may not get why I ❤️ tea, but he loves me!

LeslieO Yes! Hot tea or coffee have nothing to do with the weather! 8y

Today's #booktober post will be a two parter...first up, one of my favorite reading "snacks" is tea. I have an insane amount of tea (pictured here, on the back of the door leading to our basement), including teas I have blended myself (because, tea nerd ?). One of my favorite treats is to grab a good book & a great cup of tea and sit down for a good reading session. Next post, I'll detail some of my readathon snacks.

LeahBergen Nice!!! 8y
Daisey Wow! I thought I had an overabundance of tea options, but I've got nothing on this collection! ☕️ 8y
GlitteryOtters @Daisey the terrifying thing is that this isn't my entire collection...I also have 1 pound bags of 2 of my favorite teas in my pantry backstock area (I transfer some of it to a smaller bag to have out here for everyday use, & then just refill it when that bag gets low 🙈) 8y
