Cascade Failure
Cascade Failure | L. M. Sagas
5 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
L.M. Sagas' debut, Cascade Failure, is a highly commercial, sci-fi adventure blending J. S. Dewes' Divide series with the commercial fan appeal of The Expanse and the cozy sf of Becky Chambers. It features a fierce, messy, chaotic space fam, vibrant worlds, and an exploration of the many ways to beand not to behuman. There are only three real powers in the Spiral: the corporate power of the Trust versus the Union's labor's leverage. Between them the Guild tries to keep everyone's hands above the table. It ain't easy. Branded a Guild deserter, Jal "accidentally" lands a ride on Guild ship. Helmed by an AI, with a ship's engineer/medic who doesn't see much of a difference between the two jobs, and a "don't make me shoot you" XO, the Guild crew of the Ambit is a little . . . different. They're also in over their heads. Responding to a distress call from an abandoned planet, they find a mass grave, and a live programmer who knows how it happened. The Trust has plans. This isn't the first dead planet, and it's not going to be the last. Unless the crew of the Ambit can stop it. Ambit's Run series Cascade Failure

Here's the books from your #AuldLangSpine list, @sebrittainclark, that were on #MountTBR already.

I'm trying to decide which book to start with, Cascade Failure (most looking forward to) or Bride (Hazelwood's last few romances have been #MoreMehThanYeah for me).

Guess I can always add a tenth book from the list and roll a D10. 😉

monalyisha Right? I should have known who I was talking to and said the truth of it: Shark Heart is a strange book AND I loved it. 2w

36/150 If you like Firefly, Guardians of the Galaxy, Becky Chambers or found family stories, this is the book for you. The galaxy is divided by the powers of the Trust and the Union, with the Guild somewhere in between. The crew of the Ambit discovers a secret that could destroy this fragile power structure. There's plenty of action, snarky banter, a betrayal I didn't see coming, and an ending to tug at the heartstrings. 5 🌟 read

4.5/5

The crew of the Ambit find themselves in the middle of galaxy wide conspiracy, and they've got to find a way to stop it before more planets and their inhabitants die.

I love found family on a spaceship. This was a fun sci-fi adventure with a great cast of characters.

Mehso-so

While I can verify the comparisons to Becky Chambers and the MurderBot Diaries, and have to say this series-starter is definitely action-packed and big-hearted, something didn‘t work for me…I seemed to misread the characters and at one point was sure a polycule was in the works? These relationships so crucial to the success of this story were unclear to me, and I didn‘t feel like I got to know our main characters well enough to really love them.
