At eighteen, Kate Worthington knows she should be getting serious about marriage, but her restless heart won't let her settle down. To escape her mother's meddlesome influence, she dreams of traveling with her spinster aunt to exotic India. But when the opportunity arises, Kate finds herself making a bargain with her mother: she will be allowed to go only if she spends a season at the family's wealthy estate, Blackmoore, where she must secure and reject three marriage proposals. Enlisting the help of her dearest childhood friend, Henry Delafield, Kate sets out to collect her proposals so she can be on her way. But Henry's decision to help threatens to destroy both of their dreams in ways they could never imagine. Set in Northern England in 1820, Blackmoore is a regency romance that tells the story of a young woman struggling to learn how to listen to her heart. With hints of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters, "Blackmoore" is a page-turning tale of romance, intrigue, and devotion.

Laughterhp I really like the sound of Edenbrooke and Blackmore. Those would be my top choices. I‘ve read the Selection already. 3y
dylanisreading These are all new to me authors so I'm down to read whichever you want! 3y
Allylu @TheAromaofBooks Have you read Edenbrooke? If you haven‘t, that‘s what I‘m going to choose. Let me know. 3y
TheAromaofBooks I haven't read Edenbrooke, but it's one that my sister keeps telling me to read, so that's a great choice for me!! The only one of these that I've read is On the Fence. Sorry for the delayed response - had to be at work early this morning & didn't get to go through my notifications like I usually do!!! 3y
Allylu No worries. Edenbrooke is what I choose. 3y

‘“Should I call them out?” He asked.
I chuckled blinked back at unshed tears.
“I am in earnest.” He rubbed his chin and narrowed his eyes. “We‘ll have to duel in the morning on the moors. Plenty of fog. It will be quite dramatic, I dare say. And I will shoot him to avenge your honor.”‘

This book was so enjoyable. It definitely fit the description of Pride and Prejudice meets Little Women. I had a feeling throughout what the ending would be, but the story leading up to that ending kept it enjoyable. Chosen by a friend who decided to start a book club. But it also fits #newtomeauthor for #booked2019

Good story! Though much more dramatic than I thought it was going to be. I do wish there had been a bit more in the ending about the secondary characters but I‘m glad it ended how it did.

So, as it turns out, I do have books with headless covers on my shelves. I've never really noticed.

This is a sweet romance. I really enjoyed it. There were times that I was annoyed with the protagonists, as there often are in romances, but the reasons felt time and place appropriate. It gave me all the feels.

raelaschoenherr I like her books for a light, sweet read! 8y
Linsy @raelaschoenherr I second that motion! They're good palate cleansers, especially after a difficult book. 8y
raelaschoenherr She has a new one coming out soon-ish! But I think it's a contemporary! 8y

Oh wow, this book. This is romance written in a fine and beautiful way with intense emotions based on a relationship built with trust and friendship. If you're looking for sexual exploits, this is not your book. Refreshing to see a relationship grow sans sex. The relationship in this book blossomed and their love grew—a love story done well, delightful through and through. {I finished this book on Sept 13, 2016}

Bonus that this book is set by the sea. Well, and a mysterious house on the moors. Great atmosphere, luscious Regency romance, plucky heroine, dashing hero. All things I love in my romance books. This one had a slightly darker tone than Donaldson's previous book, due to the heroine's dysfunctional family, surrounding scandals, and recurring imagery of a bird locked in a cage. But still satisfying.

I need a proper Regency romance where I know that the heroine will end up happy and in love. I stayed up too late with this and will finish today. I love Julianne Donaldson in that she writes a relatively realistic romance for the time period. It's 1820 so our heroine has scandalized her hostess solely by being outdoors for the sunrise with her hair all wild. I love it!

intothehallofbooks I want to read something by this author! I've heard good things about her books. Lovely cover. 8y
Zelma @intothehallofbooks this is her second book. I'd recommend starting with Edenbrooke, her first. It's not a series but since I finished it, I can recommend it. These are definitely predictable romances and novels of manners. But I love that. Sometimes I want a feel-good story with a little love, a dashing leading man, and a spunky independant heroine. Apparent her third book will be modern. I am intrigued. 8y
LeahBergen Have you read Jude Morgan's Regency novels? He does a really good job with the era and they are slyly humourous. 8y

Zelma @LeahBergen I haven't read Georgette Heyer yet. 😳 but I am new to romance in general. I have been meaning to read her and thank you for the Jude Morgan rec! 8y
Zelma @intothehallofbooks absolutely! 👍 8y

I can never look at a bird without thinking of you,“ he said. "I wonder what you will do with your wings once you have found them. I wonder how far away they will take you. And I fear them, for my sake, at the same time that I hope for them, for yours.
