107 Days | Kamala Harris
For the first time, and with surprising and revealing insights, Kamala Harris tells the story of one of the wildest and most consequential presidential campaigns in American history. Your Secret Service code name is Pioneer. You are the first woman in history to be elected vice president of the United States. On July 21, 2024, your running mate, Joe Biden, announces that he will not be seeking reelection. The presidential election will occur on November 5, 2024. You have 107 days. Written with candor, a unique perspective, and the pace of a page-turning novel, 107 Days takes you inside the race for the presidency as no one has ever done before.

I finished this book just before the new year. And it was the perfect book for it. It‘s a reminder that the new year will be decided.

Sigh. Not a lot new to be gleaned from this book but perhaps bc the wound that is the ‘24 election is still fresh. I hope years from now it shows a true inflection point for the US. Only time will tell.

Finishing this makes my yearly total 94. Not bad by any means, even if it is short of my 💯 Goal.

Happy New Year, Litsy pals. I hope the year ahead is kind to us all. We deserve it.

JamieArc May it be so. 6d

If there is one quote in all this that I can genuinely understand, it‘s this one. Growing up in a mixed race household is never easy. And she is a better woman than I am. #kamalaharris #saiditwithherfullchest

I wondered through this book if I‘d have the same empathy reaction to her book if I hadn‘t supported her in the beginning. It‘s not entirely a platform defining book, but an explanation of the gigantic lift it took to run a presidential campaign for 107 days. It humanized Harris- both her strengths and her flaws. It‘s a book to read and discuss, beyond her politics, but just the whole election that was so chaotic.

It took me all month to read this just because I knew the ending, and it‘s so easy to judge in hindsight. I‘m glad I persevered though because the afterword was excellent. #NonfictionNovember

triplem80 I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish, just because it was so depressing knowing how it would end. But I did push through, and it's definitely a worthwhile read! 1mo

Starting the day that President Joe Biden announces he is not running for a second term, VP Kamala Harris takes the reader through probably the most historic presidential campaigns in history.
I listened to it during a particularly rough patch with the current administration so it was a bit like pouring salt in the wound, but it was interesting to learn what it took for Harris & her team to take a campaign from 0 to 100 in no time.

Listening to this audiobook was a bit like poking at a wound that hasn‘t fully healed yet but it was still an interesting look behind the scenes from Kamala‘s perspective. I am still mourning for what could have been but I am glad I was persuaded to give this a try.

Two quotes from my reading this morning:

From Kamala‘s mother
“Kamala, don‘t ever let anyone tell you who you are. You tell them who you are.”

From Angela Merkel

“Don‘t you ever let them make you cry.”

I doubt I'll read the book, but her conversation with Jon Stewart is wonderful. He is perhaps the most generous interviewer, as you can see throughout their conversation that he leads her from seemingly rehearsed to relaxed and honest, even more so than she has proven to be, and he give serious consideration to her questions back. He even gets her cursing over the Drumpf “ballroom“ 😅 ⬇

TieDyeDude I have conflicting thoughts on her past record and her nomination and run, and I've mostly moved on from the campaign, but she has always felt genuine and sincere, even while being forced to fit into the American political system 2mo

I was afraid to read this book knowing it would bring back the agonizing grief of the election aftermath. But after hearing Kamala‘s voice again, I am feeling empowered! I love her candor, no holds barred reflections & personal stories. Kamala reminds us of what matters most—a democracy for ALL people. “Our spirit is not defeated. It may take a while, but the fight for our country is always worth it. And we will win.” 💙✊🏻💙

MemoirsForMe @Deblovestoread So happy Kamal‘s words lifted your spirits today. There‘s a lot in this book that gave me more hope and helped me understand that 2/3 of this country did not choose this man or his agenda. Very eye-opening and inspiring. It was just nice to have Kamala back, speaking out for us and speaking the truth. 💙 2mo

Harris pours out on every page the trials, tribulations, & occasional triumphs of running the shortest presidential campaign in history.I wish the results had been different. We are losing democracy and all the victories for justice, inclusion, and, the chance for a decent life folks .

Despite knowing (all too well) how it turns out, I was gripped every single minute. She names names, and she doesn‘t even shy away from an “I told you so” in the Afterword. It‘s an authentic and intimate account of a pivotal moment in history, well deserving of its place on any shelf. Full review: https://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/107-days-kamala-harris/

Just finished listening to this! I really enjoyed hearing her perspective about the campaign and how things unfolded. She ran a hell of a race in a short amount of time. It was grueling but she kept going. I wish every single day that she had come out on top. As much as I enjoyed hearing about life on the campaign trail I loved what she had to say at the end.

Just finished listening to Kamala Harris‘s firsthand account of her run for president. When I got to the acknowledgments, where she thanked every American who voted for her, I felt the weight of the last eleven months. It‘s been hard. I will never understand giving him the keys for a second time. I will never forget.

“As president, there were so much more I could do. I wanted to see Gen Z given the tools they needed to become a new Greatest Generation, and I had so many ideas on how to help them…I wanted to change the way we think about our workforce, to assign value based on an individual‘s skill… all these things, and so much more, all grounded in the fundamental values of dignity, fairness, and opportunity.”
We could‘ve had that. Instead…JFC. SERIOUSLY?!!

Aims42 This was news to me, I didn‘t know how much she was including Gen Z in her campaign 💙 3mo
FashionableObserver Yes! Her campaign included everyone but there were elements that should‘ve snagged Gen Z right out of the gate! Helping first-time homebuyers, making more government jobs available to folks who don‘t have degrees (making the path to the middle class less bumpy), acknowledging the culture of the country and fostering it, focusing on climate change, making education more affordable…there was so much there it‘s actually heartbreaking to think about! 3mo

I felt every, single emotion while reading this, from one extreme to the other, and everything in between. I was back in the headspace of the fall of 2024 with the feelings of hope and optimism. She didn‘t have to write this, but she did and I‘m so glad to read her thoughts on her historic presidential campaign. My only wish is that there was a better ending 💔

TheBookHippie Right ? 3mo

Aims42 @TheBookHippie Another review I saw said something along the lines of the reader going through the grief process all over again while reading this. I felt that too 😢 3mo
TheBookHippie @Aims42 FOR SURE. It answered a lot of questions for me. Not that it changes the ending. 3mo
Aims42 @TheBookHippie Yes!!! I really appreciated how candid she was in writing this; she owned up to any missteps and she didn‘t play the blame game (even though she had every right to. Reason Number 571 she‘s a classy woman!!) 3mo
TheBookHippie @Aims42 She was way nicer than I would have been!! Pure class she is. 3mo

dabbe W😱WZA. I'm still in denial. 3mo
Aims42 @dabbe I have a timeshare on that phase of the grief cycle 🫤 I‘m looking at places on the anger and depression side now too. I skipped over bargaining, who could we bargain with anyways?? Acceptance is a lofty goal that maybe one day I‘ll get to? Maybe? 3mo
dabbe @Aims42 The depression is there for me as well. I've had many days with a crying jag going. Then comes the denial again, something like “I just can't believe it.“ 😟 3mo

Hooked_on_books Part of me wants to read this and part doesn‘t. I have so much respect for this marvelous woman, but I don‘t want to relive it all. This quote is absolutely spot on. 3mo
Aims42 @Hooked_on_books I hear ya, and honestly that was a big concern of mine too. I read a few chapters a day and that felt “just right”. Parts did make me mad because they were new to me or I‘d forgotten about them. But my opinion of her didn‘t change, if anything, I respect her so much more now because I hadn‘t realized how impossible this campaign really was. 3mo
MemoirsForMe These quotes and this revelation really stuck with me too. Shame on those who stayed home or have closed their eyes to the horrific reality we are facing now. Agreed that Kamala is pure class. 💙🙌🏻✊🏻 2mo
