An Ice Cold Grave
An Ice Cold Grave | Charlaine Harris
Hired to find a boy gene missing in Doraville, North Carolina, Harper Connelly and her brother Tolliver head there, only to discover that the boy was the only one left of several who had disappeared over the previous five years. All of them teenagers. All unlikely runaways. All calling for Harper. Harper soon finds them--eight victims, buried in the half-frozen ground, all come to an unspeakable end. Afterward, what she most wants to do is collect her fee and get out of town ahead of the media storm that's soon to descend. But when she's attacked and prevented from leaving, she reluctantly becomes a part of the investigation as she learns more than she cares to about the dark mysteries and long-hidden secrets of Doraville--knowledge that makes her the next person likely to rest in an ice-cold grave.

I‘ve been calling this series a “cozy” urban fantasy, and I stand by that description for the first two books. There is nothing cozy about this book. The violence is more graphic and there is a sexual relationship between two consenting adults. That said, I definitely think this a good continuation of the series and I would recommend it to anyone who is not too squeamish.

WorldsOkayestStepMom @CatLass007 her name is Seasons! 2y

WorldsOkayestStepMom @CatLass007 yes, she's my only one! She was named by my nephew several years ago. He said her fur matched each of the seasons in Oklahoma weather. 2y
CatLass007 @WorldsOkayestStepMom I really like her name. Is your nephew a child or an adult? I think he‘s clever. 2y
WorldsOkayestStepMom @CatLass007 he is a teenager now, but when he named her, he was a child. 2y
CatLass007 @WorldsOkayestStepMom Very clever boy. 2y

Following TheEllieMo‘s lead, I‘ll try to post one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember now why!). Thanks for the idea @TheEllieMo !

I‘m just super in love with this series! She always casts just enough doubt that you‘re not completely sure of the killer. I adored the evolution of the relationship- yay! Starting. The 4th one and sad that it‘s the last. I never would‘ve picked these up if not for #coffeebeanbookclub , I also know there‘s a July cozy hashtag I should be using but can‘t remember it or who to tag other than @Avanders 😂

Avanders You are so on it!! It‘s #cozyinthesun and you‘re supposed to tag @Librarybelle and @ferskner too 🤗🤗 5y
Avanders I agree — #cbbc has made me read way more cozies than I would have and I‘m so glad for the exposure!! 🥰🥰 @Mommamanzi 5y
Librarybelle I read the first one in this series years ago, I think when Harris was just starting this series. A different type of character from cozies at the time, and I liked that! You‘re more than welcome to join in on the cozy fun! @ferskner Thanks, @Avanders ! 5y

Good morning! It's rainy here but not at my house. What a great #funkopopandbookswap 📦! Thank you @wanderinglynn
I love Carrie and I'm excited to have the complete Harper Collins series now. I'll have to read Beartown before I get to Us Against You.
The #manpanion stole the peeps and snickers but the rest is mine! Great way to start a Monday!
@kstadt929

wanderinglynn So happy you got it and like it! I had fun shopping for you! ☺️ 6y

Ick. A well written mystery with an interesting premise but I could have done without all the torture and violence the author seemed to revel in sharing. Ick ick

Two caveats: this one ran a bit long - we could have had one less twist; and I'm not sure how I feel about the relationship between Harper & Tolliver. Mostly because of how it might affect the younger girls they seemingly really want to be close to. With all the time together to examine their feelings, they didn't think about that until AFTER they had sex? Doesn't seem likely.
Other than that, it's another installment in a series I am loving😍

AllenTStClair I just hate that there were only 4 books in the series. 😕 8y
Sweettartlaura By the way, @AllenStClair ... Harris' Midnight, TX series follows Manfred for 3 books. And Harper makes an appearance. If you're interested, check it out - I really liked it. 8y

AllenTStClair @Sweettartlaura I've read the first two and have the third on my Kindle TBR. I've been enjoying those. 8y
AllenTStClair @Sweettartlaura Have you read her Aurora Teagarden series? I'm thinking of giving it a try. 8y
Sweettartlaura @AllenStClair I read/listened to the first one. Then I read/listened to the first Harper Connelly. I prefer Harper, but I like Aurora well enough. Once I finish with Harper I'll read the rest of Aurora's series. It's likable (so far). I just liked Harper better. 8y

I finished with this few days ago. I just was a bit lazy to write the review. I really liked this. Usually I read books that aren't so easy but this was exactly what I was looking for at the moment. Also got an "I" for my #LitsyAtoZ challenge

I'm on the look for new #GuiltyPleasures . My previous ones have been Charlaine Harris and Janet Evanovich but I'm running out of their books. Any suggestions? It should be something easy and fun. #marchintoreading

Leniverse Anything by Patricia Briggs or Kelley Armstrong. They're my go-to when I need a quick read of supernatural creatures, murder, and romance. I'm not a romance reader, but sometimes you just want a heroine who chews bubblegum, kicks supernatural butt, and gets the guy just as she runs out of bubblegum. (So to speak. I don't think there's any actual bubblegum being chewed.) 8y
Martta @Leniverse I know what you mean. These are exactly the kind of books I am looking for! Thanks! 8y
Bookworm54 I second the authors @Leniverse has suggested (my fave authors) and also suggest Nalini Singh ☺ 8y

Leniverse @Bookworm54 I've never heard of Nalini Singh, but if she's anything like Briggs or Armstrong I'll have to look her up! 8y
Bookworm54 Paranormal romance. Should tick all your boxes 🙂 8y
Martta @Bookworm54 That looks really good also! 8y
Leniverse @Bookworm54 Looks a bit TOO romancey for me. I shy away from covers with bare chested men made completely from sculpted muscles. Lol 8y
Martta @Leniverse I think we are looking at different covers. Maybe Europian editions have less naked men on the covers of that series. At least the first book in the series that I looked up has a woman on the cover and she is wearing clothes. I'm not a big romance reader either so I'm also a bit sceptic about these matters. 8y
Leniverse @Martta I just looked them up on Goodreads. The first book had a dressed woman yes, but I scanned down the list. Let me know what you think if you try them. (I stopped reading Laurel K Hamilton when her books became 90% sex or being angsty about sex, and only 10% plot. 😂) 8y
Martta @Leniverse I'll do that. I think books are best when they have good plots so I don't think I'd enjoy Hamilton. 8y
Bookworm54 @Leniverse @Martta they are quite romancy. There are different couples in most of them, and an overarching storyline. I think they are similar to Lyndsay sands? As most books are different couples it's not too bad ☺but Kelley Armstrong and Patricia Briggs are awesome so new stuff for you either way! ☺ 8y

Found my #palatecleanser ! This is just perfect for this moment; something easy and entertaining after couple of difficult reads. This is also my "I" for the #LitsyAtoZ challenge.

Sweettartlaura I just started this series last week - I love it! 8y
Sweettartlaura PS - her books work really well as audiobooks, if you're interested 8y
Martta @Sweettartlaura I've read one book from this series couple years ago. I think it was Grave sight. I wasn't too crazy about it but now it seems I can not put this one down at all. I have to check out those audiobooks after I'm done with this one. I'm looking for new entertaining series to take over after Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. It just got old after the first ten books or so. Maybe this could be it. 8y
Christy2318 There are only four Harper Connelly books but her Southern Vampire mysteries and the Aurora Teagarden series also fill that fun fluffy read niche. 8y
Martta @Christy2318 I've read most of her vampire books. I liked the first ones a lot but the newer ones not so much. I need to check out that Aurora Teagarden series. Haven't heard of that one before. 8y

#TBRtemptation post! This is the 3rd installment in the Harper Connelly paranormal fantasy series, & has a near-4-star GR rating. Harper & her brother Tolliver head to Doraville, NC, to find a missing boy. They find him & 7 other unlikely runaway teenagers buried half-frozen in the ground. Then she gets attacked, and she reluctantly helps with the highly publicized investigation. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
