Now a full and (mostly) accepted knight and shaman of the Bazhir Alanna goes off seeking adventure and forgetting that adventures equal stories and stories equal fame. She travels to the roof of the world, seeks glory for her king, has dalliances with dragons, and learn yet more techniques with both fist and blade. All of which will help her with what waits for her when she finally makes it home to the castle.

My audiobook reread of my favorite childhood series is complete—Trini Alvarado narrates these books so beautifully, her voice will be Alanna‘s for me forever after this. Lioness Rampant is a satisfying conclusion to this epic series and made me excited to read the other series set in Tortall that I never got to as a kid!

An exciting conclusion to the adventures we see with Alanna, but not my favorite in the bunch. Alanna once again proves herself to be incredibly strong and determined (and to out it simply, badass). #TeamGeorge

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This final installment was definitely my favorite of the four. We got to see more of the world, &it‘s clear that though not a lot of detail was given here, this world was big &fully fleshed out in her mind-and that definitely has me interested in reading all her other series set in this same world! I thought the characters got good endings, &Alanna‘s character development felt fully realized. Definitely glad I finally found these books!

Had to say goodbye to a dear old friend on christmas morning. It‘s been a rough week. Frodo was 15 and had a great life, but I‘d had her since I was a kid and we are going to miss her terribly. She was one of those cats that was so smart about people that she felt more like a tiny person sometimes. She was tiny and fierce and loud and liked to cuddle under blankets and steal socks. We were lucky to have had her, but saying goodbye is hard! ❤️🐈💔

rachelsbrittain So sorry for your loss! She looks like she was an absolute sweetheart. We lost one a few years ago around the holidays and it's an especially hard time to lose a pet. Sensing thoughts and good wishes your way ❤ 6y

A great end to a fun saga that gives me the kind of heroine I like-a fiesty woman who is complex, who lives life on her own terms, and who refuses to be confined by others‘ expectations. We get to see Alanna truly become the hero she is destined to be while making friends & family worthy to have & defeating those do wrong. I also love that she learns that sometimes the greatest victories come from letting go.

JLaurenceCohen I love Tamora Pierce, though some of her later books aren't quite as good 6y

I can't believe it's over!! Now what am I going to do with my life!?

This series sucked me in completely. I was bummed, at first, to learn this was something I could've read in my younger days, but I think the stories you need find you precisely when they mean to.

This was such a good series! I even loved the ending with one exception-- *shakes fist at Tamora Pierce* How could you?! I can see how many of today's heroines in YA evolved from Alanna. Woohoo #girlpower! Now I have to wait for my holds on the next series...

Aurys Yes!! Alanna is the best. Love Tamora Pierce‘s books! 7y

So good!!!! So thankful to my #glorytotheguild friends for getting me started on this series. I recommended it to my RL book club friends also. An end to the main Alanna story line but I look forward to more Tortall adventures! #yafantasy #adventure #swordandsorcery

jwashreads I'm judt starting the series for the first time-- I'm pretty sure I missed out by not reading it as a teen. 7y

Finished the final book in the Song of the Lioness series - so delightful! Truly can't believe I missed out on this series as a kid since it would have been right up my alley. I'm a sucker for stories about women disguising themselves as men and charting their own destiny. 🤺🗡🛡🐴🐈👑✨#fantasy #womenwarriors #alanna

lauren.lerner I'm so glad you liked them!! This is pretty much my all time favorite series and has been for 24 years. 7y

Fan-freaking-tastic. I don't particularly enjoy series but I did this one and never in my life have I completed one so quickly! Alanna will forever have a place in my heart and I can't wait to continue reading about the land of Tortall.

emtobiasz ❤❤ the Tortall books. You're in for many more treats. 8y
Chachic Read the duology about her daughter next! 8y
MarriedtoMrT @Chachic As tempting as it is to continue Alanna's story, I'm going to try to read all the Tortall books in order. Immortals series is next and I've heard good things. 8y

Especially after reading the afterwards I understand that Tamora Pierce was embracing the sexual revolution she witnessed for women as she herself grew up. That said, a THIRD dude? I understood the Jonathan attraction even as I never expected it to last so I was planning on George but now we have Liam?! And I like Liam, don't get me wrong, but can't she just be friends with some of these guys?

thegirlwiththelibrarybag She's friends with heaps of guys. 8y
MarriedtoMrT @thegirlwiththelibrarybag You're right. That is true. But I haven't seen her (read her) interacting with them since her gender reveal (much) and the friends her age who knew her gender before were both love interests. 8y
TirzahPrice I love that Alanna is a lady who knows what she wants. Three guys in four books doesn't seem that promiscuous! Plus, she has loads of guys friends from her training days! Liam was always my least favorite of Alanna's lovers but he wasn't terrible! 8y
See All 6 Comments
MarriedtoMrT @TirzahPrice I agree with you that she's not promiscuous but I'm not sure she really does know what she wants when it comes to the men. I think she's been steamrolled by each a little bit. I do think she's attracted to them and I am all for her acting on her feelings of desire. I'm trying to pinpoint my feelings and I think it is because she still has so much emotional entanglement with them. I think I would feel better if it was all physical. 8y
MarriedtoMrT I keep trying to picture all four of them in a room together. Does that happen? Will I get to read that scenario? 8y
TirzahPrice @MarriedtoMrT Okay, it's been a long time since I read them, but I see your point about her emotional entanglement. I guess when I said that, I meant that I like that she doesn't get caught up in "oh should I sleep with them? Is that wise?" She just goes for it. But yeah, she totally runs to George when it doesn't work out with Jonathan, and Liam when it doesn't work with George. 8y

When I think of #ChillyReads, Alanna's journey to The Roof of the World is the first one that comes to mind! Such a good story! But brrr! 🌬❄️ Thank goodness for hot cocoa with peppermint mini marshmallows! A yummy way to keep the chill at bay!

Bremfrmi I love all her stuff. Strong female leads and I feel deals with "romance" and sexuality in a real way. Except for the birth control charm, those would be awesome. 8y
