This was the final book for my #12challenge- 12 friends, 12 books, 12 months. It‘s been a great challenge, I discovered some books I wouldn‘t have otherwise.

Unfortunately this one didn‘t work for me. I have tried one other by this author and I couldn‘t finish that one either. It‘s partly because I was listening to the audio while flying, which was too distracting I think, and I got pretty confused about what was happening and gave up. 🤷‍♀️

Soubhiville Thanks for the recommendation though Lynn! Another time I might have liked it better. 12mo
vonnie862 Oh no. I have this book. 12mo
wanderinglynn Yes, I can see where this would be confusing on audio. There were a few times I had to flip back. I definitely recommend trying it in print. @vonnie862 12mo

#two4tuesday

1. I don‘t have a preference. I just look for a good story. But I‘ve probably read more PA stories as they tend to be SciFi and that‘s one of my fave genres.

2. I really enjoyed the tagged. It was not a book I normally would‘ve picked up. But it came in an OwlCrate box, sat on my shelf for nearly a year, and I finally picked it up for a shelf clearing challenge. And wow, I absolutely fell into the story.

Thanks for the tag Lisa!

wanderinglynn For a good alt history, I recommend 2y
TheSpineView I enjoyed Blood Oath. Thanks for playing! 2y

Dystopian writing at its best! I was absolutely absorbed by this story and the twists and turns the plot took as the story revealed itself little by little. @rachelsbrittain thank you so much for including this in your #bestof2021swap! I don't think I would probably have picked it up on my own, and I was blown away!

rachelsbrittain Yay! I'm so glad you loved it so much! 3y
truthinfiction This is such a beautiful cover. Although, it gives off more YA or romance vibe instead of dystopian. Your review is intriguing. 3y

1. Tagged. I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would. And now I really wish I had someone to discuss it with. I miss IRL book clubs.

2. I will always recommend Neil Gaiman.

3. Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs

BookmarkTavern Yay for Gaiman! Thanks for posting! 3y
PaperbackPrincess19 Loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, TJ Klune and Jay Kristoff and really any unfinished series that I‘m waiting on. 3y

In the tagged, Kasey has fear, anxiety, and uncertainty about her sister, her society, the environment. Cee has fear, anxiety, and uncertainty about who she is, where she is, and how she can escape.

Erinsuereads Hi Lynn!!! I'm so glad you found this! I added you to the list! I can't believe I forgot to just tag you anyway 😂 3y

Mehso-so

Absolutely love the cover, but the story was a bit meh for me. It took a long time to become interested, I found only one perspective interesting and I called the twist way too soon.
If you‘re interested in picking this one up still, here‘s a link! https://amzn.to/3sfUBcz

This is not a book I normally would've read. The only reason I own it is because of OwlCrate. Then it sat on my shelf for nearly 9 mos. But I picked it up yesterday because of #bookspin & then pretty much couldn't put it down. (I say pretty much because I had to put it down last night because work doesn't understand things like "read all night" and "book hangover" as excuses not to come in.)

4.5 stars/5 & yet this is a hard book to review. ??

I finished this audio last week but had a migraine for 5 days. Just now posting. I did enjoy it overall but think I need to go back and reread the last several chapters. I don't recall what closure the two characters had in the end. I don't know if it was me or what. I didn't see some of the twists coming and was shocked. I didn't really understand Kasey sometimes. She seemed so unfeeling and I didn't relate well to her. I liked Cee's story more.

Book Riot's Best Books of 2021 so far! So many great picks but I do have to especially recommend my selection, The Ones We're Meant to Find by Joan He

https://bookriot.com/the-best-books-of-2021-so-far/

TieDyeDude That one sounds interesting. I just finished Crying in H Mart. Wonderful book! 3y
Laughterhp I haven‘t heard of a lot of those books on the list! 3y
LibrarianRyan I read She's Too Pretty to Burn. I liked it but I didn't love it. It would not be on my list of the best books in 2021 so far. 3y

rachelsbrittain @LibrarianRyan I haven't read that one yet so I can't really comment. That is actually one of the things I love about BRs best of lists though-- each pick is from a different person so there's a huge variety of books from lots of different tastes and preferences! 3y
rachelsbrittain @Laughterhp its always one of my favorite places to find some new book recs for just that reason! 3y
rachelsbrittain @TieDyeDude I've seen that one floating around a lot. Did you enjoy it? 3y

An awesome dystopian novel about two sisters trying to find each other. One lost on an abandoned island, the other in an eco-city since the world is almost uninhabitable. I loved the different points of view from the sisters, the science, the twists and turns.
I gave this book 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I couldn‘t put this book down!

Started off really strong this month and then fell into a bit of a slump. Still, not a bad month of reading. My favorite book of the month was definitely The Ones We're Meant to Find followed by Klara and the Sun.

I also love that this book had a nice mystery element to it. So this book took two of my favorite genres, dystopian/science fiction, and thriller/mystery, and put them into one. I didn't think this book would be a mystery but it definitely had that psychological thriller element. I did not see the twists and turns coming and when it happened I was shocked. But once learning the truth I could understand things that I couldn't make sense of before.

Joan He got me to read a different kind of disaster fiction. This one isn't something I'd normally consider myself drawn to (have to be in the right mood for dystopias AND man versus nature themes) but 1) that cover 2) the idea of these two characters fighting for their sisters and balancing that with the world around them. This was lovely. https://youtu.be/4JLuy5e4TIM

The Ones We're Meant to Find by Joan He is an innovative, YA science fiction about two sisters' journeys to find each other. First off, I'm so excited to support an #ownvoices author of Asian descent. The book is also so original! Kay is a teenage scientist/genius missing her sister. Meanwhile, far away, Cee wakes up alone on an island with no idea how she got there.

overall, i loved the author's writing style and the way she wrote each pov. i liked how the themes of a post-apocalyptic world were explored, environmental issues, climate change, and new technologies. i devoured it despite it's flaws and it did not disappoint! i deeply recommend this to anyone looking for a thrilling novel.

Wow. I'm not even sure what else to say about this book except wow. A climate disaster dystopia novel about two sisters, one lost and trapped on a deserted island with only a robot and what little remains of her memories and the other trying to figure out what happened to her in a floating city above the sea. Tightly plotted, full of twists and intrigue, and just a beautiful and thought-provoking story. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.
