I should have known this was going to be a heavier novel by the synopsis, but I was still surprised by how much it hit me. The complexity of emotions Kate experiences throughout the book is so well written. I loved the depth and intention put into it. I consider this a novel about a woman who experiences a great loss and learns to become whole again. Really well done by the author (and the acknowledgements make it all the more poignant).

Although I thought this book could have been better executed (too many reminders of Kate‘s age and Ruby was insignificant to the plot), I liked the story. … Our kids were teenagers when my husband died and I‘m always interested (fact or fiction) in a mother‘s journey through grief. My own experience would not make for a memoir, but I still wish for an editor to cut or rewrite parts of my journey.

marleed @Suet624 @AnnCrystal @bthegood Ahhh thank you. It was a journey but I‘ve been on the other side of that particular grief for long time. In fact, I thought I moved through it so thoughtfully and thoroughly that grief could never again take me down. But I tell you what, when my oldest sister succumbed to her long journey with cancer in 2021 I learned fast and hard there is no vaccination against grief. 3mo
AnnCrystal 😢🙏💝.

There was an episode of the Longmire series, when someone asks the main character (Longmire) something about if grief ever becomes easier. He tells the woman (not an exact qoute. A summary) that grief becomes lighter, but that he would have to forget for it to completely go away, and he never wants to forget the one he loved (Longmire's wife).

Allow the good times fuel your memories and help you heal 💕🙏💝.

bthegood @marleed @AnnCrystal A friend once told me (after a loved one had died and I was dealing with grief) that to grieve meant I had loved and been loved..... ❤ (edited) 3mo
marleed @bthegood @AnnCrystal That is so true. I think about that often with my eldest sister. My mother died when I was toddler and this sister was 10 years my senior. Without doubt she was the person remaining on this earth who loved me fiercely my entire life and without condition. There‘s yet to be a day in the last 3 years I‘m not reminded of her earthly absence in my life. And btw, my other sisters would write the same thing❤️ 3mo

Faces of Alzheimer‘s and those that love them.

Sometimes you laugh with them, sometimes you cry for them. Most of all and most importantly, you love them through it.

This book gave me hope; I saw it on the library shelf and knew it was different from everything else I‘ve read about the disease. I felt it so important, I got my own copy and have saved the ReCODE website; I have shared the information with others. We know there are many contributing factors to Alzheimer‘s—but what if there was a way to hit back against every one of them? Amyloid forms in the brain but the brain isn‘t trying to attack⬇️

JenniferEgnor itself; it‘s trying to defend itself. There are 3 major key elements into promoting the healthiest body and brain. 1. Prevent and reduce inflammation. 2. Optimize hormones, tropic factors, and nutrients. 3. Eliminate toxins. Like anything else, these things demand commitment and permanence. It requires a change of lifestyle but it can be done. The three keys are good bodily advice in general, which all of us can benefit from. Why⬇️ (edited) 5mo
JenniferEgnor not give it a go? My father and step mother both have Alzheimer‘s; I have seen its brutality in my hospice patients as well. This is an empowering book and everyone should read it. We cannot expect the program to work for those in severe, advanced stages; but we can start hitting targets before it begins and even after. Time is of the essence. I learned a lot from this book and will be using Bredesen‘s recommendations. It‘s worth a shot. 🧠🌻 5mo

Hi everyone👋I‘m still around, still breathing, just in the worst book slump of my life & honestly, a little bit of depression too. But I‘m fighting back & going to try and force a few chapters a day to get my book brain back into gear. Books are still coming in so if I don‘t try and read some soon, I‘ll either die under a book avalanche or the hubby will throttle me! So hopefully, I‘ll be around a bit more!🤞🤞🤞(my grandbubba jumping puddles👆)

Many thanks to @bthegood for passing this book along to me. A simple and poignant story of an 80 year old dying of cancer hitting the road with her husband who has dementia. The wit and snark of Ella was perfect and her care alongside her occasional anger toward her husband felt spot on. Being older myself I could empathize with her review of her life. Happy to pass this book along to anyone, as it too is a traveler.

bthegood so glad you enjoyed it - 🙂 It has traveled from @BkClubCare to @bthegood to @Suet624 to whoever is next 🌞 (edited) 7mo
