This bittersweet story is about a couple in their 80s who go on one last roadtrip. Ella has cancer, and is tired of all of the doctors appointments, treatments, and medications. Her husband John has Alzheimers. Despite everyone telling them not to, they pack up their Leisure Seeker camper and drive what remains of Route 66, all the way to the end. While they travel, Ella thinks about life and the vacations they took over the years with their kids.

Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView -
The tagged book was my favorite September (and maybe for the year) -
Looking forward to #Scarathlon ( yay for #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall ) and all things Halloween!!
Make a great day everyone - 🎃
Perfectly written story about John (early onset dementia) and Ella (cancer) who have been married over 60 years. Ella decides they need to take one last trip in their camper -cross country, on route 66, to Disneyland. It's a story that reflects on life's purpose, loss and love.
I am passing this on to the first Litsy that responds - as @BkClubCare passed it on to me (thank you - loved this book) -

Working on this #BookSpinBingo - just realized we are 10 days into September!! Enjoying each book, loving tagged book (thank you again @BkClubCare for sending it to me)
Make a great day everyone🍂
I read a lot of books that start with “The“ - may have to be more intentional on titles OR just carry the #AlphabeticalBingo ( @Clwojick ) into next year - ok - option 2 it is 😂!
Make a great day everyone 🍂
#BookSpinBingo for September - thanks for hosting @TheAromaofBooks -
Holiday weekend and planned to have no plans ! Lots of reading - hope to finish current reads and hit the library again Tuesday 🙂
Make a great day everyone 😎
Thank you @BkClubCare for sending me this book - such a nice thing to do!! I promise to pass it on when I am done with it.
Make a great day everyone 🙂
I can‘t say I enjoyed this exactly— it is sad and heartbreaking— but I very much appreciate old people main characters and their choosing life on their own terms. Well done Ella, you feisty grandma you. And as fearful/nervous as I was about how it would end, I admire how it was portrayed; “well done.”
About to make a strawberry pie but perhaps I should make a Fried Green Tomato Pie (with an “Ugly Crust”) with what I picked today. We are hoping that if we cull some green ones, we will spur ones still on the plant to ripen already! Husband wants to make green tomato relish. #LitPie #BookandPie #iLovePie

This is a fast read about an elderly couple who decide to go on one last road trip following Route 66. It has a definite nostalgic feel, some funny moments, and some heart breaking ones. Ella, the narrator, reminisces about a life lived without fanfare or drama, and her choices. It‘s a book that makes you think about your own life choices, and also inspires you to get behind the wheel and drive! Maybe down this street in Bay Harbor, MI #puremi
Ah finally a peaceful moment to read and relax and the weather is perfect...not too humid or hot!
Halfway through. I can't put it down for long. More thoughts to come when I finish but does anyone else keep picturing Jane Fonda as Ella?
Being from Will's hometown, I just don't know how to deal with this!
This book made me cry and while I was bored with the constant descriptions of the travel and the travels from the past, the accurate portrayal of living with someone who has Alzheimer‘s makes this book excellent. For me personally, it was so hard to read, harder than any of the other books I‘ve read about elders, it made me feel massive amounts of fear and feel horrible amounts of guilt, but I appreciated the end so much.
In Florida spending the morning at the pool with my book! I bailed on The Alienist and moved onto this one. I just couldn't get into The Alienist and now I'm sorry I bought it. Is anyone watching the TNT series? Is it good?
Oh gosh, I finished this morning. I finished through tears and sobs and understanding. I understand because I probably would‘ve done the same thing, Ella. And so would‘ve my grandparents if they had the chance. This is a beautiful read and a personally hard read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars.

Shout out to my husband for now taking pictures of me reading when I don‘t ask: he knows my Litsy addiction. Tonight I was trying to listen to music while he watched a movie. He has big head phones. This book is so good and I‘m reading so slow again, taking in all the story. Also, Pepperjack 😍 #dogsoflitsy #frug
#Showusyourbujo:
I don‘t have a Bujo 😓, but I do have a small notebook in my lap that I journal in while I read. I also have a husband that takes REALLY great photos.
I left my house for the first time in 3 days. I‘m not contagious- I wouldn‘t leave if I was. 40 mins of reading in, but I‘m still struggling even with antibiotics. This double ear infection is killing me slowly. Back to soup and couch!

Husband brought me soup and cherry soda to help. We are thinking it‘s an ear infection :( dr in the morning. ;(;(

Nothing fun today. A homemade Apple Cider Vinegar and fresh ginger tea I‘ve sworn by for when I‘m getting the illnesses. The flu I‘ve carefully avoided has not carefully avoided me. I finished Wild last night through a lot of tears and I‘m still trying to process. Will write soon, but for now, MORE TEARS!

My husband and my boys went to a bar to watch the Cotton Bowl, my daughter went to a movie with a high school friend, and the furs are snoozing so it‘s just me and my book. This is coming out as a movie soon (if it hasn‘t already).
It came today. My heart is excited and it definitely hurts: my Grams, my world, was recently lost to Dementia/Alzheimer‘s in October. We lost pops barely 4 weeks later to cancer. This book hit me hard and I knew I needed to read it. There is something so comforting in a book. ❤️

#litsypartyofone dinner of tater tots, a morning star chicken patty, and my favorite kombucha. I don't know how I came across this book but I am absolutely loving it, even though I'm pretty sure it's going to leave me a crying mess.
John and Ella have been married 60 years and have enjoyed traveling in their RV "The Leisure Seeker" much of their married lives. Both have health issues and against their children's wishes they decide to embark on one final RV journey from Michigan to Disneyland in CA. A fantastic story, sometimes funny, sometimes tender, sometimes sad. The Leisure Seeker is a book that addresses issues many of us try to avoid as we age or see our parents age.
