Today‘s #audiobaking on my mother‘s behalf involved banana cupcakes and the ganache to fill ‘em with. I did them gluten free this time because my aunt‘s coming to visit and she was recently diagnosed with celiac disease. Hopefully they turned out well. I‘ll find out when they cool off.

Today‘s Mother‘s Day #audiobaking. My mum loves her homemade sandwich cookies.

I‘m only a little ways into CITY OF BRASS, but it seems promising. I have high hopes for it given how much I loved Chakraborty‘s more recent novel, THE ADVENTURES OF AMINA AL-SERAFI.

Midnight Tides | Steven Erikson

My mum wants soft ginger sandwich cookies for Mother‘s Day, so I did some #audiobaking this morning. It took me through a pretty big chunk of MIDNIGHT TIDES, which is probably my favourite volume yet of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. It‘s half extremely fun, half extremely dark.

I almost returned the tagged book unread to make room for a 48-hour audiobook that came in way earlier than expected, but I decided to at least give it a go. Now I‘ve got an exciting new author to explore! While I solved the mystery many hours before Jake, I had such a great time with all the small town community stuff and the strong friendships that I couldn‘t care about the story‘s faults. I made excuses to listen more. #audiobaking

xicanti If you, too, want to make Nanaimo bars while you listen to something great, I recommend the city of Nanaimo‘s official recipe. It‘s on their website. I make it in a 9x13 pan instead of an 8x8, with the base and topping as written but the custard filling doubled. Please note, also, that you MUST use sweetened coconut. Unsweetened mucks up the base‘s texture. 6mo

xicanti @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I think it was near the top of the results when I searched for a recipe a few years back! It‘s a good starting point, but needed some tweaking. The official base is almost half again as thick as the custard. 6mo

Pies and books and books and pie. Just finished the ebook+audiobook of White Noise for a Beer & Books discussion opportunity and now starting the hot book by Moore, an author I have admired for years.

I made this Tomato Basil Pie as a side for a dinner party and also the Lemon 🍋Meringue for dessert and neighbor-thanking last weekend.
