Bailedbailed

I‘n doing a bit of cleaning up on my “Currently Reading” shelf. This has been on it for too long and I find myself not reaching for it anymore.

Bailedbailed

You know how sometimes you‘re reading a book and thinking: Is this a waste of my time? Well, this felt like it. I just couldn‘t get where this story was going…And don‘t get me wrong, I don‘t mind reading about a character‘s day to day, but this just felt like it was leading nowhere.

Bailed at 25%

ChaoticMissAdventures Such a bummer. I had high hopes for this, but people are not enjoying it. I have it out from the library now, so I might try a chapter or two, but it is not looking good! 3d

squirrelbrain You‘re right to bail - it didn‘t go anywhere and got considerably weirder as it went along. 3d
Amor4Libros @squirrelbrain Glad I went with my gut instinct! 2d

Sad that I wasn't able to finish this book. It was all pictures of his writings/documents and a few photographs. What I did read was boring to me and didn't want to continue.

I was glad to have seen some of the somewhat ambivalent reviews of this from other Littens, because it made it easier to bail when it wasn‘t working for me. I gave the audio about an hour and a half and I was just so bored.

squirrelbrain Of course, I listened to the whole thing because it was ON A LIST. 🙄 4d

Police officer Sergeant Chandler Jenkins is manning the rural station in Wilbrook, Western Australia on edge of 100s of miles of unexplored wilderness. It's the usual kind of day until a dishevelled & injured man stumbles into the station. His name is Gabriel & he was abducted whilst hitch-hiking by a man named Heath. Heath had driven Gabriel to a remote cabin before telling Gabriel that he was to be victim no. 55, but Gabriel managed to escape.

OutsmartYourShelf Chandler has never dealt with a potentially big case like this before & has to call in the higher-ups, including Mitch, the man who used to be his partner whilst training who has now made the rank of Inspector. Chandler is making sure he has all his bases covered when a second man appears. Also dishevelled & injured, he says his name is Heath & he was abducted by a serial killer named Gabriel..... 5d
OutsmartYourShelf The synopsis to this was immediately intriguing to me & the premise is really good. Unfortunately the execution of it was not so good - the story became bogged down around Chandler & Mitch's antagonistic working relationship. There seemed to be no real reason as to why Mitch was so nasty to Chandler & it just made him seem like an ass. Also police procedure seemed to go out the window & one of the suspects escapes police custody TWICE! 5d
OutsmartYourShelf The worst thing though was the ending - what the heck was that? 2⭐

My thanks to #NetGalley & publishers, Simon & Schuster UK, for the opportunity to read an ARC & apologies for the very late review.

I want to say I gave this book a fair chance, because I picked it up three times since February, but I couldn‘t make it past page 15. This is definitely a NOPE for me. On a positive note, I‘m getting my Kindle cleaned up from all those stuff your Kindle events I did last year. #Roll100 #82 from February.

I tried, I really did… I gave it like 86 pages or something before I was just absolutely done. It‘s not that that was bad, it was just bad for me. Anyways, this was my #Roll100 #90 for March.

AnnCrystal It is necessary, we don't want to make reading feel like a chore...reading needs to be either informative or like little vacations, especially these days 📚💝. 2w
Leftcoastzen I‘m more that way now too! I think the more we read the more we have a sense of what we will like/not like regardless if a book is highly praised or not. I am painfully aware I don‘t have infinite years to read , so , not working for me ? #hailthebail 2w
kspenmoll I have never had a problem bailing from a book- not enough time to read something I don‘t like - I do give it a few chapters- then done! 2w

Bailedbailed

Well unfortunately I got about 2/3 through and was just not interested in the rest. I read through a bunch of reviews and many folks said it started strong and weakened in the middle, without a clear or strong conclusion.

It‘s about a Latina reader writing to an older Latino writer she admired greatly and had a confusing relationship with 10 years prior, after being contacted by a reporter about said author being charged with sexual assault.

Soubhiville @TheAromaofBooks this was March‘s #bookspin 2w
