Finishing this book tonight, and it also completes my #Pantone2022 challenge for this year. Thank you for this fun one @Clwojick

Funny it‘s my last book for this one, happens to be the center square, and wasn‘t picked by me at all but the #SheSaid reading group pick. #Serendipity #Bookendipity

Clwojick Woohoo! Way to go! ❤️ 2y

Did any of you read Ready Player One, if so you are really going to enjoy this sequel, with a whole mission set on Arda. It‘s making me smile today as one of the characters says (paraphrasing)...I saw the movies and read the books, but I didn‘t read the 12 volumes of The History of Middle Earth, they are full of mythology, early drafts, & pronunciations of 3 different made up languages! 😂.

JoyBlue I can't hardly wait! It finally came up on my hold list yesterday, but I haven't picked it up yet. Any day now, I'll be ready to dig in! 😍 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JoyBlue It was a bit of a slow start, but then it‘s so good! I won‘t tell you anything else and ruin it, but it‘s been great traipsing through some great 80‘s trivia again...a fun way to relax this holiday season. I‘m really enjoying it, and I was surprised it came up from my library hold so quickly too. 4y
BookwormAHN I definitely plan to read it. I enjoyed the first one 😸 4y

JazzFeathers I don't know anything about this book, but it sounds like fun. I like your quote, LOL! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers Ready Player One is a novel set in a future where the real world has gotten worse, and most people spend most of their lives logged on to an immense online world where they spend almost all of their time. When the owner/creator dies...he sets up a quest to find the new owner....missions are like video game missions, set on any multiple of worlds, a bunch based on fantasy/science fiction worlds, video games, the 80‘s (since that‘s ⤵️ 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ when the creators grow up), so there are worlds devoted to just about any fandom you can imagine. It‘s a lot of fun with lots of references to geeky stuff, this one just happens to put one mission quest on Arda, and the protagonist is kicking himself for never reading the 12 volumes of The History of Middle Earth or finishing the Silmarillion. He‘s thinking why couldn‘t it have been on the planet for the Third Age, he knows that well. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers If you are interested, the first book was Ready Player One. 4y
Daisey I absolutely loved Ready Player One, but I‘ve been a little nervous to pick the sequel up. Your review makes me more likely to do so. (edited) 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Daisey I haven‘t finished it yet either. It‘s a bit of a slow start...as you catch up on what‘s happened with the society since the last book ended, but then a new mission starts and it‘s just as good as the original, and again Wil Wheaton does the narration on audio which is great. But I had to laugh at the mission to middle earth and references to Beren & Lúthien, and the Histories of Middle Earth. Just a great reference for me. 4y
JoyBlue @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm starting it tonight—squee! I loved RP1, so I've been a little worried about the sequel. But, I'll definitely stick with it. Thanks for the slow start warning. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JoyBlue You are welcome! Enjoy! 4y
Taylor The Middle Earth part was SICK! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Taylor YES! I loved it! 4y

When your library ebook is due back today, but you just haven‘t had time to finish it, and now you‘ll have to put it on hold again for like another 4ish weeks until you see it again.... but wait, miraculously it‘s on kindle sale today!

That‘s some great #BookSerendipity #Bookendipity especially since this was one I was thinking I should buy anyway. 👍

That rarely ever happens, like once every 20 blue moons, but I was really excited! #BookNerd

GingerAntics Oh, it‘s on sale on Apple Books, too. Are you enjoying this book? Im trying to do some more sex positive reads. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Yes, I really enjoying it...which sounds weird, but it‘s both no-nonsense, direct, but also funny at times. So everything you needed to know and they never taught you in health class, but also why some myths started and stayed because of lack of science, etc. And she‘s a gynecologist, so more trustworthy than some internet searches. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics If you pull up the book itself, you can see a few other posts by others who have read it and see if it looks interesting to you. 4y

GingerAntics I like that. Sadly, I got my sex ed from religion class, so I‘ve got some work to do. 🤣😂🤣 I heard of this thing along the lines of “Purity Culture Drop Out Support Group” or something and thought maybe I should do that. I‘ve got a collection of books, and I think I‘m going to read sex positive books throughout 2021. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Well then this is a good one to start with, because she actually starts at the beginning..diagrams, what‘s the name for parts, how they work. It sounds lame, but it‘s really not, health class was all I got, a lot of exercising is good, eat right, CPR and the 1 day they separated the boys and girls to talk separately....that‘s it officially. And when I was in HS, you couldn‘t google it yet! LOL however now you may be able to, (edited) 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...but the misinformation is pretty bad too. And she definitely talks about the Purity idea, where that stemmed from, and how it‘s been used by “the patriarchy” since, etc 4y
GingerAntics 🤣😂🤣 luckily I have some really sexy positive friends, so I actually know part names, uses, etc. Pretty much all the useful info I ever had came from people outside the US. I have another that seems a good place to start as well. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics So this one is, at least so far...know your body, know what‘s normal, know when they are just trying to sell you something that you don‘t need, to cure something that‘s natural. Etc. so a bible/handbook for your body. I have a few of those on my to read pile, so maybe I‘ll see if we have any match up? Right this second the other 2 I can think of that I have are 4y
GingerAntics I have Come as You Are. The Body is Not an Apology I‘m on the fence about. Maybe I‘ll see what you think of it. 4y
GingerAntics Another I have that just has an amazing title and sounds so good is 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Well, they all look interesting...maybe we‘ll both have to see how the other one likes their pile as they go and decide what to add from there. We both need more books to read, right? 🤣 4y
GingerAntics Obviously!!! Clearly neither of us have nearly enough books to read. 🤣😂🤣 4y
GingerAntics Honestly, I‘m just happy someone else is doing some sex positive reading. I was debating weather or not I should post on Litsy about that particular reading list/topic. I‘m feeling much better about that now. Thank you!!! 4y
GingerAntics Just got a recommendation for another book. It‘s got a bit of a shocking title, but the part that is actually shocking is that it used to be a title of respect for women before it was taken over as an insult. Stupid men. 4y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I was looking at that one as well. The audiobook is the same price as the ebook, so I‘m wavering on which one to get. I did get “The Body is Not an Apology” though. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics It‘s on Hoopla too if your library works with them. 4y
GingerAntics Nope, just Libby. Maybe the new one here in Moorhead does, but they‘re closed so I haven‘t been able to get a new library card. 4y
GingerAntics I just found a new book that sounds really interesting for this topic and several others, actually. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics That one does look interesting! 4y
GingerAntics It really does. I heard about it and knew I had to share. 4y

The Martian Chronicles | Ray Bradbury
post image

When you are reading the ebook version, but switch to the audio version on hoopla for your drive & find a whole new short story that wasn‘t in the other version. I‘m sure “Way in the Middle of the Air" was left out of some versions for the N- word/racism, but it‘s set in the American south, when all the African Americans (along with all Africans) build their own rockets and leave for Mars, annoying the locals. It‘s a great story about racism ⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ and the feelings of entitlement and being owed someone‘s time and work, and how they tried to hold onto them by money debts and twisted contracts. I honestly would never have known about this story, if I hadn‘t switched to the audio version at exactly the time that story appears in the chronicles. Talk about wonderful book serendipity! #bookendipity (edited) 4y
KVanRead Neat! That story rang a faint bell so I had to go check my copy, my parents Doubleday Book Club Edition from the 70s, I think, and it‘s in there! I wonder when it was removed or if it‘s just the ebook edition. 4y
See All 11 Comments
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @KVanRead Amazon says this ebook is from “William Morrow Paperbacks; Reprint Edition (May 21, 2013)”. Sad they removed it, it‘s a really strong short story. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @KVanRead The other interesting thing now that I downloaded the other version and am comparing...they pushed all the dates out, so the chronicles happen further in the future. They don‘t start until 2030 in this version. 4y
KVanRead Weird. The former history major in me isn‘t digging that. When I read an old book I know it represents a different time, and as for dates i always get a kick out how it‘s not what they pictured. I don‘t see why they couldn‘t just put a publisher‘s note at the start to provide context rather than changing the author‘s work. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @KVanRead I completely agree. The original shows you what they thought it would be like in the future, reading it now with future dates, it sounds like humans regressed in history (attitudes and customs ) to about the 50‘s in the future, before traveling to Mars. I don‘t like when they mess with the author‘s material. 4y
ValerieAndBooks Interesting. I was unaware. My edition didn‘t say anything about changes — should have :-(. The trade paperback edition I read apparently is the one that had this story taken out. I‘ll have to look for the story online. I also agree that they shouldn‘t change dates. No one has changed “1984” , for example! The dates were changed in The Stand editions but Stephen King chose to do that. @KVanRead (edited) 4y
KVanRead Exactly @ValerieAndBooks ! Also agree it‘s different if it‘s the author‘s decision. 4y
JazzFeathers @KVanRead @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @ValerieAndBooks l really don't like this arbitrary way to change an author‘s work. It changes the story, it changes the context, it also changes history, in a way. There's nothing l like about it. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers @KVanRead @ValerieAndBooks I agree, I‘m very glad that I switched editions, even for awhile for my drive...just because then I was aware of the change. It‘s funny, I finished Fahrenheit 451 today, and at the end he has a note complaining about this kind of subjective editing. (edited) 4y

When books collide. Caesar was assassinated in the chapter I finished today in Cleopatra: A Life and the author in the tagged book is now near the mountain range known as the Julian Alps, named after the self-same man. Apparently this happens with nonfiction books too! #cleopatraalife

An Othello reference in my novel! I love when the books I‘m reading concurrently complement each other 😊

readordierachel Synchronicity! This (sort of) just happened to me too. I finished Song of Achilles and then in the very next book I read, Salvage the Bones, there was a reference to Achilles and Patroclus. 6y

Another odd case of #BookSerendipity, or what I‘m calling #Bookendipity, when two books you‘re reading crossover in unexpected ways.

Even when I‘m taking a break from my #YearOfTolkien, Christopher Tolkien still makes an appearance in my reading tonight! 😂

Seriously though, nice choice Patricia Briggs....of course an ancient werewolf and her fae lover would have Tolkien in the house.😉

Cathy12 I feel like that happens to me all the time! It is great to have a word for it now, thanks! 7y

When the audiobook you‘re listening to this morning references events in both the fiction and non-fiction books you just finished within the past week! Awesome #BookSerendipity #Bookendipity

This one reference a certain protest that plays a pivotal part in The Nix (I‘ll tag it below)
