Sold on a Monday: A Novel | Kristina Mcmorris

So I was a little annoyed that this book was more about two people working at a newspaper than about children being sold out of desperation in the 1930s. But after a bit I became so immersed in the story that it didn't matter anymore.

3/80

TheBookgeekFrau @DieAReader So do I! But it ended up a decent story in the end, so not a total loss 3h

Mid-month Checkin

I thought reading Witness in Death would cover B4 and I‘d have a double bingo but I forgot I made I1 an #IDLR square so that won‘t work 🤦🏾‍♀️🤣🤣🤣

Who knew a book about mysterious revenge killings related to lynchings and other violent, racial-based crimes could be so fun? This is one of the more unique works of fiction I‘ve read. The author achieved an odd balance of dark subject matter mixed with humor. If anything, I would have loved it if the book was a bit more serious. A less-skilled writer could never have pulled this story off. I can‘t wait to read more of Everett‘s work!

JoeMo @Amiable thanks so much for introducing me to this author!!! #auldlangspine2025. @TheAromaofBooks #bookspinbingo @monalyisha (edited) 22h
monalyisha What a success! Great review, too! 16h

Amiable @JoeMo I‘m so glad you liked it! It‘s a difficult book to describe. 😄 I read 3 of his books last year —he‘s such a wonderful writer. 5h

Such a great book…a must-read IMO. This is a reread for me, so this time I opted for the audiobook.

Jennaree3 They made this into a movie many years ago. Funny enough, I think the girl from twilight was in it 1d
mom2bugnbee I am the one person in the world who bailed on this book years ago. I wonder if I need to give it another shot. 1d
dabbe My favorite book to teach to the 9th graders. LOVE it! The movie is really good, too. It stars a very young Kristen Stewart as Melinda. 🩶🖤🩶 1d

Evie has realized how strong and badass she is. I loved the deeper dive into the characters and the themes of family, friendship and magic. This was my #BookSpin book.

So far all fit my ebook or free slot except Sister Snake which was audio.

Tagged will get me first bingo of the year but I don't want to finish it 😅 It's one of those standalone books that is SO GOOD!! I don't want to leave the story/characters. Ive been prolonging the inevitable.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Great progress!! 2d

Mid Month recap #Bookly - Im catching up on some doctors appointments this month & some other necessities which is why I haven't been on much.

Not a bad start to the year but nothing has seriously given me shock & awe. Did manage to read two books from #ReadYourKindle list @CBee 🥳. I will update both my kindle & #BookspinBingo board for #January @TheAromaofBooks

I am loving the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles the deeper I get into the series.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Looking great!! I've also had a lot of solid but not mind-blowing reads this month. 2d

Like other books set in WWII Philippines, parts of this book is brutal. The treatment the soldiers received from the Japanese was horrendous and this book does not sugar coat any of it. Specifically, the scenes on the warship were the stuff of nightmares.

I liked that the story was told from the perspectives of the two main characters, Sam and Sarah.

Butterfinger I'm currently reading Ghost Soldiers- you are right. I know US occupied Japan, but I am wondering if the Japanese soldiers are put on trial like the Germans? I hope my book addresses that. 2d
