I‘ve tried both the audio & print and am having difficulty getting into this one. I really thought this would be squarely in my wheelhouse. Maybe I‘m not focusing and need to come back to it another time.

LeahBergen @Ruthiella Thanks, it is a first edition! These covers are so different from the recently republished ones. 😆 3w
LeahBergen @BarbaraBB I do, too! 3w
LeahBergen @Tamra I‘m still early enough into this book where I‘m trying to figure out why this was a choice of cover art. 😆 3w

His books never disappoint. A couple of unexpected things near the end. Quite a bit of romance. One thing annoyed me. The kid character was supposed to be 9. I had to keep reminding myself of this fact as she sounded and acted like a 14 year old. Glad I read it.

MrsMalaprop I haven‘t read this one. Love Patrick Gale 🥰. 2w
Jeg So do I @MrsMalaprop . Michelle lent me this one. An op shop find for her. 2w

Super good. I like both perspectives. Seemed like a very real and nuanced account of living with a family member with SUD. Beautifully written, want to explore more Susie Boyd

To sum up this story of mother daughter estrangement: bleak. 😕

LeahBergen Your review made me laugh. 😆 1mo

Glad I listened to the recommendations, because I really enjoyed this one. The writing felt both contemporary and timeless, somehow. The themes are evergreen, I suppose - mother/daughter relationships and the difficulty of truly knowing another person, even someone as central to one's own life as a parent. Riley has a keen eye for detail, and her style is lean and biting in the best possible way.

The_Penniless_Author @Yuki_Onna I'm going to say this counts for #6 for the #tprc, since the MC drinks quite a bit of coffee. ☕️😋 2mo

Bailedbailed

I expected to love this novel because at the outset the humor seemed delightfully cheeky! (Pun intended) 😢 Sadly, there was something about the writing that felt disjointed and I couldn‘t find the flow. I got almost 3/4 of the way thru and skipped to the last chapter to see if I could tell where the MC ends up. Seems a rather morally dubious ending. @Jess_Read_This

Ruthiella You gave it a fair chance. 3mo
Tamra @Ruthiella could have been wrong time. Just never know! 3mo
