As a child, I read and loved I Am Mordred. This book only hit my radar a few years ago and I'm so glad i took the time to read it. It's another lovely, feminist Arthurian retelling.

Had never heard about this King Arthur story but it is an interesting one which centers around Gawain.
FYI - The cover is misleading. 😅😅 I expected there to be more dragon based on it.
Also my #doublespin for June.

More Arthurian book mail today ⚔️

(Also I‘m not sure why the book profile on this book says it‘s written by the same author who wrote the Crystal Cave (it is not!)

World Called Camelot | Arthur Landis
post image
Panpan

(1976) It's a mashup of science fiction and fantasy, where a galactic space agent goes undercover on a planet with medieval technology and feudal economics, and where magic works. Also, the indigenes are furries. Plus, telepathic teddy bears. The story is fine, but the characters are dull and the mannered prose is frequently grating, especially since Landis has a poor ear for the kind of writing he's trying to imitate.

I've never read this before & didn't know much about this legend; it only sprang to life for me when I saw the trailer for The Green Knight. This retelling by Morpurgo for children is beautifully-written & illustrated (art by Michael Foreman). I read a bit each night before bed & it created a suitably magical dreamscape as I drifted off. What I didn't expect was that it's a bit racy for the kids! Lol 👵🏽#ChildrensClassicRead2021 @TheBookHippie

Cathythoughts ‘ Magical dreamscape‘ sounds wonderful 💫 We did it in college ( but I think I might have missed some of those lectures 🙊.. I‘d like to go now though 2y
Lindy I like Morpugo‘s simple, elegant style, although I don‘t think I have read this one. Your post reminds me of another retelling of Gawain that I liked: 2y
batsy @Cathythoughts Yes, I want to read a proper adult version and have the Armitage translation 😁 Really want to watch the movie because it looks gorgeous. 2y

Read this book if only to read the Pratchett, Springer, and Costikyan stories - they are just THAT GOOD. The rest is a mixture of decent and disappointing.

The Pratchett story is all sorts of brilliant - a must read.
