This one, stories set in Hawaii, is my pick for #FictionalTraveler April #Island & it‘s one of my April #Roll100 picks (#24 Any stories or essays ).

It‘s good incentive since it‘s been in my TBR since I bought a signed copy from a local book store when it was released.

When I was in high school I read and loved this series. Returning to them now when it feels like the world is in such chaos, felt like a warm hug. Some plot points are obviously dated, but I loved rereading these books that I adored when I was so young.

Before reading this, I have to admit I didn‘t know much about Captain Cook outside of the fact he‘s a pretty solid guess on Jeopardy in the topic of 18th century European explorers. This is a thoroughly detailed book of his epic final journey. I enjoyed how the author contrasted events and Cook‘s decisions and tendencies to those from earlier expeditions. I hope to read more by the author and about Capt Cook in the future!

JoeMo This read was part of my efforts to chip away at my #auldlangspine list. Thanks for another solid recommendation @Amiable 1mo
Amiable @JoeMo If you like Hampton Sides‘ writing I highly recommend this one —it is one of my favorite nonfiction reads: 1mo

3✨ After Pearl Harbor, Adam and his family move to California where his mom and him start working. Adam receives a letter from his friend Davi from Hawaii about his family being taken because they were born in Japan. This book highlights Japanese internment camps that Adam visits at one point. It also shows how Adam is growing and becoming the man he needs to during this timeframe. #SeriesLove

I was a few books into this series before I realized there was a prequel, so now that I‘ve finished what‘s been published, I circled back to it. This is good entry point to meeting all the characters, and nice to see Molly and Emma meeting Pat for the first time. These are fun mysteries that get living in Hawaii right.
