pickFor our Christmas #childhorror selection, we read this extremely dark and pessimistic story about how parental “love” for their offspring can basically result in the genocide of humanity. In 340 pages, DiLouie covers a month and a half in a small town in the midst of a global phenomenon. This focus and the time he takes with the story makes it strong, and while it isn‘t always narratively satisfying, it is really effective: horrifying and moving.

As all of my books are currently packed from my recent move, I went to B & N this afternoon to reread The Monkey in Skeleton Crew. While there I was happy to find the tagged book, recently reissued due to an adaptation. I've had my eye on it for awhile but copies have always been pretty expensive.

so-soI got this from my book club‘s mystery Christmas book exchange. It was an OK read but I felt the writing had a tendency to be too repetitive, and some of the events felt too obviously like plot devices. Maybe I‘m just too cynical for ghost stories!

Not sure when or if I can remember a book giving me goosebumps from the creep and fright. 😱 👻 This book was such an unexpected story and I didn‘t know where it was going. It was very well written. I highly recommend…but read it during the day lol 😅😶🌫️🫢 I also recommend her other book Hunted, it‘s a totally different story. 🥰👣👀
Somehow, Halloween themed would seemingly be quite befitting year-round.
