In the opening scenes, Cora‘s sister, Delilah, is violently killed right in front of her. Much like the bat in Aesop‘s fable, neither beast nor bird, Cora is half-Asian, half-Caucasian. Who *is* she, truly? She feels untethered without Delilah. When a hungry ghost she believes to be Delilah begins dogging her, she needs to find answers for the Asian people being murdered during the pandemic. Buckle up, kids, the road is rough from here on out.

This is one of the most disturbing books I have ever read. Cora Zeng begins the book with no agency but by the end is a somewhat unwitting heroine. I don‘t want to describe anything more about the plot because it defies description. I don‘t know if any of the things in this book actually happened, but I‘m sure there must have been equally gruesome crimes against humanity and particularly Asian women. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My guy & his coworker got a hookup to attend Monday Night Raw this evening. Yes, I'm missing out on a live wrestling event, but I've got some uninterrupted reading time. Watson is concerned about the horror book, so he's staying close by, in case I need him to bark at hungry ghosts.

I'm trying to finish #192025 as soon as possible, but I really needed to read something modern to break up the older stories I have left.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @5feet.of.fury My guy knows what parts I'll be interested in, so we'll breeze through it tomorrow. I'm a little jealous he got to see Dolph Ziggler pop in tonight. I like Cena so I'm sad to see him go, but he's gotten himself quite the acting career now, so he's not disappearing completely. 2w

Bar owner Jimmy is retiring & planning on selling Lillies, a spot for hipsters and the well off in the now trendy, but once crime ridden Red Hook. Bartender Erin is hoping to buy the bar but Jimmy refuses to sell & tells Erin an unusual story. This is labeled as a short story but with the audio clocking in at 2 hours it's more of a novelette. This is a careful what you wish for story. Pick!

I don't really read horror books. I'm not sure if I just don't get on with the genre or I didn't get on with this.

The premise was great, the execution less so. I found this so boring. The first half of the book was painfully slow though it did pick up later on.

Must admit this was a big disappointment for me was hoping for so much more on a modern vampire retelling 😕it‘s all about personal taste isn‘t it ? And maybe I‘d hyped myself up too much 😆personally I thought the author was trying so hard to produce “literary horror “ it was just so slooooowwwwwww , couldn‘t engage with any characters & after reading the fantastic hounding this wasn‘t a patch on that !

Eh 🤷🏼‍♀️. I had the worst time getting into this story. It‘s very dark and depressing and was a slower burn than I was really in the mood for. The ending did pick up somewhat and had a few good surprises thrown in there so I am glad I finished it. Still…possibly just not my cup of tea. Beautiful cover though! 🌟🌟🌟

vivastory I read 1/3 of this a few months ago and had to return it because there was a hold on it... I admit that I'm curious to see where the narrative goes 1mo
