80 year old Maggie is real a piece of work! Competing for the hotel as her claimed home against an 8 year old boy who is also a piece of work.
As others have noted, great twist at the end!

What. In the world. Did I just read. Holy crap. That was a wild, tense, dark ride, and the ending was insane, and…I‘m here for it?

MINI REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Translated from Swedish, Strega is a short, gothic novel that takes an unflinching look at the horrors of girlhood. Lyrical, dreamlike writing: This is a vibes over plot book with an ambiguous ending. If that‘s your bag, then this is a great fall read! 🍂🖤🍂

#BookHaul Part 2 (with pigeon droppings ?️)
Two Arnold Bennett novels, and an Andre Gide volume of two novellas.
I love the Penguin covers, and initially thought the orange?logo on the 1963 Gide was a recent sticker, it's so vibrant, but it's actually part of the original design ?
"The Grand Hotel Babylon" has lovely Impressionistic cover art by Charles Ginner, and it sounds like it will be something of a satirical farce.

What a wonderful coming of age story!
The book is set in a hotel in Seattle during the 1990s and I loved how authentically Seattle it felt. There were numerous references to Seattle pop culture (and 90s pop culture in general) throughout, including a chapter cleverly named, “Pleatless in Seattle” (pg. 114).

I read this for book club & really did not enjoy it. I listened to the audiobook. It wasn‘t paced well & I kept going back & forth on being into & not. The characters aren‘t developed & I just didn‘t really care about what was going on. It was also way too long at 11 hours & didn‘t get interesting until 9 hours in. There is a twist at the end, but not caring about the characters I was just like “ok”. I do not recommend this one!

Well, this was just delightful! Glad I‘ve finally read it!
