Day 26 - #EpicJourney #NewYearNewYou #JourneyToTheCenterOfTheEarth #JulesVerne

I loved this book as it was full of excitement and adventure, with slight hints of humor and slivers of suspense. Verne is so creative and imaginative, yet so descriptive, that you feel as if you are there with the trio as they make their journey. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure.

I was surprised at how entertaining and readable this classic ended up being. Verne's heroes are always strong, silent, scientific men, and Fogg is no exception. We never really find out why he takes on his bet, but he calmly deals with every delay that appears. My favorite part is when his servant rescues the girl, but the girl views Fogg as the hero and falls in love! 😆 Published in 1872, so there is definitely a sense of inherent white ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) supremacy as they pass through areas like India and Japan, but this was the height of colonialism, so in a weird way it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be?? All in all, Verne weaves a fun and entertaining tale that I definitely recommend.

One book down for #24B4Monday!! Haven't been tracking my hours this time around, but hoping to finish two more books by the end of the weekend. @Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid @jb72

ljuliel I really like Jules Verne. I remember liking his books as a kid too. He was a very good storyteller. Look 👀 at you, whipping through those challenges. Good job 👍🏼 10h

TheAromaofBooks @ljuliel - my dad is an engineer, and he loves Jules Verne so much. I grew up reading his books, but haven't revisited them in a long time. Hoping to read 20,000 Leagues and The Mysterious Island this year, too! 9h
ljuliel It‘s nice to revisit sone of those books you lived growing up.. brings back good memories. 9h
jb72 Great start! I have two of his books but haven‘t read them yet. 8h

1. Naps when I'm sick. Sad - one of my happy books & watching the Oceans Eleven movies lol
2. Oh wow, long time. Not really an ocean girl.
3. As long as I finish the tagged book, yes! I usually participate loosely - never make it to or even try to make it to 24hrs, but I enjoy tracking my time and seeing what happens!!

Time for another #24B4Monday Readathon!! Can't believe it's already the end of January!!

No time goal this weekend (although I always enjoy tracking it for fun), but I really, really want to read the tagged book. It's my #bookspin pick for January, and it would be great if I could read it before it's time to pick another! 😆

TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid @jb72 … just realized that you all aren't on this month's graphic, so now I'm not sure you want to be tagged for all the posts?? 3d
jb72 @TheAromaofBooks Yes that is fine. Thanks for joining us! I haven‘t read that book yet, but I own it. 3d
Andrew65 Thanks fir reposting. 😊👍 Yes please if you tag me @Andrew65, allows me to keep up with all the posts. I miss posts otherwise and I do like to put a comment on each and every post. 3d
TheAromaofBooks @jb72 @Andrew65 - sounds good!! I just don't want to annoy anyone with unwanted tagging 😋 3d
Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks I love the tags. 😊 3d

A few days ago I introduced my personal challenge for the year - a monthly #BookSpin ! The concept is simple - make a list of 20 books languishing on your TBR. On the 2nd of every month, I draw a number, & you read that book sometime during the month!

January's number - 18!! I get to read the tagged book! Be sure to tag me with the book you get to read, and let me know when you read it!
@imyril @llwheeler @Lcsmcat @Butterfinger @mabell

TheAromaofBooks And just a reminder - sometimes books linger on the TBR because, deep down, we don't really want to read them. Please don't feel like you have to force yourself to read the book you drew. The challenge is to give the book a chance! If your review of the book is to say you bailed on it for any reason, that is A-OK. No pressure here. A DNF still means the book is off your list, and that's the goal. Happy reading!! ❤ (edited) 3w
ljuliel Good idea, and good luck 👍🏼🍀 3w

veritysalter What a great idea @TheAromaofBooks I have an out of control TBR pile and am too much of a mood reader. I shall definitely give this a go. 3w
TheAromaofBooks @veritysalter - I would love to have you join! I'll be sure to tag you when it's time to post February's 20 books!! And if you want to join this month, you still can - just count off books on your shelf until you get to 18, or something along those lines. 😊 3w
veritysalter @TheAromaofBooks I‘m ok for January; I‘ve just started European Travels for Monstrous Gentlewomen, it‘s 700 pages, so I may be a while. 3w
TheAromaofBooks @veritysalter - oh my goodness, that is a SERIOUS chunkster!!! Good luck! 3w
llwheeler Woohoo! I'm excited for my Jan read - hope you enjoy Around the World! I read it as a kid and liked it - I think it was an abridged edition though. 3w
mabell I couldn‘t be more happy with my #18! (Though I only chose 20 books I would be excited to get to, so no matter what it will be a win-win 😄) 3w
TheAromaofBooks @llwheeler - My dad is a big fan of Verne, so I read several of his books growing up, but somehow never got to this one. It's also been years since I've read 20,000 Leagues, so I'm hoping to get to that one this year as well. 3w
TheAromaofBooks @mabell - I like your strategy!!! 😁 3w
LaraReads This is a really great idea! 3w
TheAromaofBooks @LaraReads - thanks!! We'll be doing another spin on February 2, so you can feel free to jump in if you like!! 3w

Round the Moon | Jules Verne

This is both silly and suspenseful to this particular 21st-century reader, given what we know now about space and space travel. Definitely read this right after From the Earth to the Moon.

3.5/5. I was impressed by how detailed the explanations of the rocket were, and how prescient for the rocket to take off from Florida! I also found it funny that a French author was writing about Americans 😂

rabbitprincess Also, the ending was such a cliffhanger (and a bit of nightmare fuel, to be honest) that I had to pick up Around the Moon right away! 2mo
