Tumbling in the Hay | Oliver St John Gogarty

I've read works by many physician-writers, but hadn't come across Gogarty till now. An Irish otolaryngologist and a Sinn Féiner during the Irish War for Independence, he served as a Free State Senator, and was also the inspiration for Buck Mulligan in James Joyce's Ulysses. I was hoping this novel would provide an interesting glimpse of medical training in the 1900s, but it‘s mostly a collection of vignettes that was a bit of a slog.

Megabooks Too bad because it sounds interesting. 2y

Book #32 of the year: “The Zen Doctrine of No-Mind” by D.T. Suzuki.

Honestly, this was way above my level. If I had really any knowledge of zen history I‘d have been better able to understand this.

I love finding notes in used books that other readers wrote! I am wondering the same question, fellow reader. #Marginalia

Hubby and I went on a date to the used book store. We somehow limited ourselves to six books. 2 for him and 4 for me. #bookhaul

wanderinglynn Great haul! I love all things Gaiman & that‘s one of my faves. Dumplin‘ is also a cute story. 5y
MicrobeMom @wanderinglynn Thanks! I saw the Dumplin‘ movie and thought it was cute. I decided I needed to read the book. 5y

Exploring NOLA this weekend! This is my oldest, who‘s about as obsessed with books as I am! He‘s quick to grab the most interesting (or largest) book and plop down on the floor at any moment. Bookstores feel like home 🖤 Do any of u search out bookstores while on vacay??

Tamra Yes! But I‘m the only one who has that on the agenda. 😏 5y
Freespirit Apsolutely...I have been known to travel to a town just for its bookshops! 5y
Palimpsest Every time I go to a new city I look up the bookstores. When I went to NOLA we went to Faulkner House books, but they were about to close. Hope I can make it back sometime. 5y

hexytome I believe I was at that same store in the French quarter. They have a flyer of all the book stores in the area. Just ask one of the shops for one. The one y'all were in was my favorite. 5y
