My last post for #NFN20 is a day late. This podcast discusses non-fiction books but from an interesting comic perspective. Listened to a couple of them and enjoyed the content. Link: https://www.stitcher.com/show/by-the-book

Moonprismpower I love this podcast! I just read This is Where you Belong too. And Kristen and Jolenta! I liked the episode about plants. 🙂 4y

This is my last book for #NFN20 . I enjoyed this book that discusses sexual liberation with interviews and scholarly research. It also unpacks the different labels that women are bombarded with.

These are the four nonfiction podcasts I‘ve listened to the most during Nonfiction November. ArtCurious is hosted by a curator at the NC Museum of Art, which is right here in Raleigh. So I think of it as a hometown project! I haven‘t read her book yet but I‘d like to.

Well, I kinda stunk at #NFN2020. Only 3 nonfiction books this month. I still have about 400 pages to go in the Frank Lloyd Wright book I started so I don‘t think I‘ll finish it today. Oh well, 3 is more nonfiction than I usually read in a month. #NovemberStats #NFN20

Chab256 I love #NFNov but this year I read zero nonfiction. 🤦‍♀️ 4y

A Place Called Waco: A Survivor's Story | David Thibodeau, Leon Whiteson

Waco on Netflix is a limited series that shows the 51-day siege between the members of David Koresh‘s Branch Davidians and the FBI/ATF. The tagged book is one of the sources of the series. Definitely worth a look into what happened. Now, I want to see and read more about this 🤷🏻‍♀️ #NFN20

Librariana I'm sure this would make for an interesting documentary or docuseries. I'm always fascinated by learning about the minds of people like David Koresh and Marshall Applewhite, founder of Heaven's Gate. I believe there's a documentary about this last one on HBO Max. 4y
NeedsMoreBooks @Librariana thank you for letting me know about Marshall Applewhite, need to check out the documentary. 4y

The Library Book | Susan Orlean

This book chronicles the most catastrophic library fire in the US that occurred on April 29, 1986 at the Los Angeles Public Library. The book also connects to the larger implications and effects that libraries have. So a love letter to libraries. I enjoyed this as I love the American public library system. #NFN20 #FEASTMODE

It is about plants and botany as seen through Native American traditions and Western scientific traditions. Kimmerer- is a botanist and a a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. She brings these two aspects together with the main idea we can awaken to a wider ecological consciousness by acknowledging and celebrating our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. #NFN20 #FEASTMODE

This was short fun book on being fearless, finding your power, and toppling the patriarchy, with a little help from spells and rituals. I liked the way these are easy to do with readily available things. The illustrations are cute and beautiful. This would be a fun book to gift but not good for a re-read. #NFN20 #Feastmode

So . Glad to have read this book. Very no-nonsense way of figuring this out. I am going to try to incorporate readings often for me to learn and try to figure it all out. In my head and all that good stuff. I think in time with practice I will get better :)

@TheAromaOfBooks

TheAromaofBooks On Instagram, Maggie Stiefvater recently did a tarot card each day, going through the whole deck & explaining what they mean & did a really good job contextualizing them, I thought. It's not for me, but it's interesting to see. 4y

So in reading the Minors I am noticing a lot of parallels with the cards we used to play with as kids and the Tarot. My grandmother had a tarot deck she played with but it was different. I wish we can find it (she had dementia prior to her death and hid all sorts of things everywhere. When my aunt finds her things she send them my way usually). Anyway the Mexican playing cards share a lot of parallels with the tarot. ⬇

ElizaMarie And I remember when we would play cards she would mutter little sayings about the card or the suit in Spanish and it was always really sweet. Awe I am so happy with this journeyI am taking into Tarot.

Chrissyreadit I love tarot. Is that your current deck pictured? 4y
sprainedbrain What a beautiful memory❤️ 4y
ElizaMarie @Chrissyreadit no.. This is a picture (stolen online) but this is a picture of Mexican Playing cards. These cards were cards I would use growing up. To play like Con Quien, Pairs, King's Corner stuff like that. but I had noticed such a relationship with the suits as the tarot cards. I will post a pic of my cards soon :) 4y
