When I bought this book I didn‘t know it was a series (this is book 2) but I wasn‘t confused or felt like I was missing something. It‘s sweet with a bit of spice, and I enjoyed it, but I‘m not chomping at the bit to read any of the others (there are 8 books total).

Berkeley‘s Arms is a home for wealthy elderly in Florida. We meet its residents (mostly female) who spend their days in their rocking chairs on the porch, gossiping about each other and making up stories of their own lives. It‘s probably true to life, which makes it sad, but it reads like a fun story. Not Tove Jansson‘s best one though.

#WeeklyForecast 30/25

I am reading and enjoying A Midsummer‘s Equation, a Japanese mystery. I can‘t wait to start Tilt afterwards for #CampLitsy25. I also want to read this beautiful edition of Sun City by Tove Jansson.

TrishB Just reading Tilt now. 4mo

Here is my #BookSpinBingo for July 2025. My goal, if anything, is to read the post title as it has been on my TBR for over a year, and pretty much on every bingo cards since January.

A different sort of "summer read", one I enjoyed immensely. Tove Jansson is one of those authors I've known about forever but had never read (not even the Moomins, which aren't as well known in the US as Europe). I knew that she was fascinated by America's unique (to put it nicely) attitude toward aging and the elderly, and she really captured the pathos of being abandoned in "paradise" with insight and gentle humor.

BarbaraBB I love her too and hadn‘t heard of this one. Thanks! 5mo

My daughter goes to school about an hour from where these take place & a friend of mine lives there. It makes them even more entertaining to me. I found myself laughing throughout this book. Such a great escape.

I truly wanted to prolong this for a bit longer, but in this crazy world the RileyThorn Mysteries have become my favorite escape.

It was fun continuing the journey with these wacky characters. I love this series, I really hope this goes on for many books...although I don't know when I can go and add the next one to my library. Thankfully, I have the first four in this series.

And good thing, because this completed on a grand cliffhanger!

👇

AnnCrystal I didn't catch the killer, but did guess correctly about where one of the bodies was hidden. And I knew what an abandoned house next door would be perfect for...took Nick long enough!

I loved all the main characters in the first book, and they have all returned along with some new ones for this second installment.

This mystery had more moving parts than the first book. There are some warnings ⚠️📚 that I will hide in an ending comment.

AnnCrystal The third book in this series is one of my give ups on my Lent list. Which means I can't even read the sample for book three that was given at the back of this book! And this did have a splendid cliffhanger!

I do want to prolong this series and keep these characters a part of my life for as long as possible, so this 40 day spacing will help with that goal.

Good news, the character Weber should have an even larger role in book three 🤞🏼.

AnnCrystal 1- Mentions of a past suicide, along with a hint about this suicide in a vision.

2- Mentions of bullying.

3- The personality shaping the above two had on the murderer-character.

TheSpineView Hikes a cliffhanger!! 😲 8mo
AnnCrystal @TheSpineView an epic one! I'm a rare reader who actually loves a good cliffhanger...especially if I have the next book 😂.

While each has had a mystery that wraps up by the end, the next book seems to continue right where the last one leaves off...which is in a dramatic closing scene.

Characters Weber and Nick have a mystery from their past that the reader has been given hints about since the beginning. This book ends giving a huge revelation.
