The Gospel of Z | Stephen Graham Jones

Jones always has something interesting to say and this book is no exception. This is a zombie story but it is also a book about the church and the military vying to be THE authority in a post-apocalyptic zombie-invested world, the military-industrial complex, good and evil, hope and despair and the will to survive even when the possibility seems unlikely. Not my favorite of his books but still a well-written, entertaining read.

Book #9 of 2025: “The Scourge of God” by SM Stirling. I was reallly into this series when I was younger but got behind during/post college. I picked this up at a used bookstore in Florence over the winter and loved it. Time to get the rest of the series!

I really enjoy apocolyptic stories and was looking forward to this one. But it just didn‘t meet the mark. I thought that it was a slow read but it did pick up closer to the end. After this entire slow read I was hopeful for a nice wrapped up ending but it just seemed to end. I was like WHAT?!?!

Some call it prepper porn. I'd say that's hyperbolic. What would happen if there was a collapse? This book presents a plausible scenario and outcome. It's entertaining. It also provokes some thinking about what each of us would do. What if the economy collapsed? What would you do? Do you have a plan? Do you think the government is going to save you? Worth the read.

Vol 4 out of 6, but so far there are no publishing dates for the last German volumes. I have a bad feeling about this...

This series is the one that tells me I'm not quite out of the manga genre. It speaks mostly through the artwork and shows us a dystopian world, that isn't quite that dystopian.

In this volume the girls learn about what humans are capable of doing. Like building weapons and destroying whole cities.

This might be my favourite volume of the series so far. It's the story about the fish and the robot creature that takes care of it. A lot of depth is revealed here. The philosophical ideas that flew into this chapter, deeply moved also touched me.

My #12Booksof2024 pick for August is another one that I'd been meaning to read forever and finally got around to thanks to the #ClassicLSFBC group. I wish I'd read it way back when, but am glad to have read it now.

On we go with Yu and Chi. Just as lovely as the first volume. Yes, the setting is rather dystopian, but the protagonists are nothing else than cute and innocent. There's a lot of slapstick and the manga made me laugh a lot. But since I'm not that musical, I preferred the anime episode of the rain scene to the one in the manga.
