Probably a Medieval book on either religion or medicine I needed to read for my studies in History. At a guess ca. 12th/13th century AD.

I love a retelling of a Greek myth, so really enjoyed this! I thought Haynes‘ take on the story was interesting, and I enjoyed hearing from characters with less of a voice in other works.

This week I pulled out the original recording of The Gospel at Colonus, one of my favorite pieces of theatre- a setting of "Oedipus at Colonus" as a modern parable within the frame of a Black Pentecostal church service. The music is incredible, and a gospel choir serves as our Greek chorus. It inspired me to re-visit the original, as well as Antigone- both still absolute bangers. And yes, that is a CD because the dream of the 90s is ALIVE, y'all!

It‘s the perfect little classic for teaching because its main themes (law vs. morals, state vs. family) are fairly easy to access and its deeper layers (man vs. woman, tyrant vs. people, fate vs. self-determination etc.) require some critical thinking. We‘ll see if my students agree.

A short, visceral play. It‘s the story you know from popular culture but still has a huge impact when you read it in its original form. Tread with caution if you‘re phobic about eye injuries…
