Pickpick

A beautiful, grim story of atmosphere and characters in dire straits. The ending was strange and unexpected. #shortyseptember2024

THE THIRD MAGIC was a huge deal for me when I was a kid. I paid SERIOUS MONEY for it at the Book Market (we‘re taking $1.75, compared to

xicanti I‘ve come back to in recent years. The prose, worldbuilding, and story structure give young readers full credit. It feels very Diana Wynne Jones meets Guy Gavriel Kay. I hope it doesn‘t pull any 80s dodginess in the back half. (edited) 6mo

I was going to re-read my existing copy of Thomas's nostalgic "A Child's Christmas in Wales", then today I saw this edition with illustrations by Edward Ardizzone and had to get it as he's an iconic illustrator from my own childhood, so now the nostalgia is multiplied!
Some of the illustrations are plain ink, others are painted, all are wonderful, and, of course, Thomas's beautiful, aching and funny prose poetry ? ❄️???????❄️

AnnR It looks like a wonderful edition! I also really enjoy this poem. 11mo
LeahBergen I‘ve been meaning to pick up a copy of this edition for the last couple of years. ❤️ 11mo
Bookwomble @AnnR @LeahBergen It is a lovely edition, and at the risk of being a Book Enabler, I'd encourage you both to get a copy 😁 11mo

I love participating in the #JolanokaflodSwap the marvelous @MaleficentBookDragon hosts here on Litsy!

And I have read the tagged book on Christmas Eve every year since I was a kid. ❤️

I found this historical fiction of Llewelyn of Wales at the bargain bookstore for $4. What really caught my eye is how worn and well-read it was compared to the books next to it.

Um it's knights in brocaded silk roaming around and bedding maidens and killing earls and plucking the beard hairs off of strong men while they're knocked out (followed by killing them?). It's kind of a mess but don't worry, every maiden is the most beautiful woman possible: skin as white as a swan's ass, lips redder than the reddest blood, hair as blonde as broom flowers?, wearing brocaded silk, snow white booba, eyes like beautiful eyes-

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!
