I recently moved to a new town and decided to join a book group. This was their pick for January. It‘s interesting but very graphic definitely not a book I would‘ve picked up on my own but sometimes that‘s the best part of a book club is reading a book out of your comfort zone #JanuaryBookClub#Yellowstone

Wounded: A Novel | Percival Everett

Another gem found in a neighborhood #LittleFreeLibrary ! I‘d never even heard of this one, but if Everett writes it I will read it. Grateful today to be outside in the currently fresh air in San Diego, even as I‘m feeling so much sadness for our northern neighbors, including some good friends who lost family homes. 💔

AmyG Devastating 😞 1w
Butterfinger I'm so sorry. It is all so sad. 1w
Hooked_on_books I completely agree about PE. I‘ll read anything he writes. 1w

ImperfectCJ I can relate to the simultaneous gratitude and sadness. Family back east keep asking if we're okay in San Diego, and when I say we are and that our college kid is safe at school so far, too, I feel it acutely, almost a guilt at feeling grateful to be safe (so far) when such destruction is happening only a couple of hours away. And of course knowing that our safety is contingent on something as capricious as wind patterns. 1w
BkClubCare I found this book last year and because it was PE I took it home. Thought it was great. Our hearts go out to all with threats of 🔥- very sad in so many ways. 1w
sarahbarnes I‘ve never heard of this one by him either - what a find! So terrifying what is happening. 💔 My daughter is just south of LA. 1w
monalyisha I always have trouble remembering where Littens are and keeping in mind the little details that make up their lives. It‘s part of why I love #AuldLangSpine. It brings a particular person into focus. I‘m sorry that I‘m learning *now* that you‘re in California, that I didn‘t reach out sooner, and that the details that make up your life are actually quite big right now. Sending love. 💗 Hoping against hope for increased climate justice. 1w
Christine @AmyG @Butterfinger So heartbreaking and beyond overwhelming for those affected. 1w
Christine @Hooked_on_books I feel lucky to have only read three of his so far! So much goodness to come. 1w
Christine @ImperfectCJ Well said. So concerned about what the next few days will bring. 1w
Christine @BkClubCare How fun that you found this one too and even better that you enjoyed! And yes, so much sadness and the enduring uncertainty is so hard. 1w
Christine @sarahbarnes Feels like an embarrassment of yet-to-be-discovered riches when it comes to Everett! And sending good wishes to your daughter, hope all are able to escape further disaster over the next few days. 1w
Christine @monalyisha It's so hard to keep track of where everyone is (region or country! :)! And I love that perspective re: #AuldLangSpine ! So true. We're so far unaffected in San Diego, though inland areas have warnings re: this next round of winds that's arriving. And yes, climate justice is so needed. We are all at risk wherever we live. 😔 1w

I picked this randomly from Everand and really enjoyed it. Lucky bonus that it‘s number 9 in the series so I get to go back to the beginning. #WinterGames #XmasChaCha @StayCurious

This was recommended by a coworker and has a chapter on Bridger Bowl (my home mountain!). Saving to read once the lifts start turning.

Heaven's Keep: A Novel | William Kent Krueger
post image
Pickpick

Krueger makes some gutsy choices in this one and leaves readers guessing—about all sorts of things—until the very end. I don‘t want to say any more about this one because spoiling the way this one unfolds and is resolved would be seriously uncool. It‘s tense, gripping, high stakes, enraging, all this things from the first paragraph. Every moment and every reveal up until the end is earned. Excellent.

Fi: A Memoir of My Son | Alexandra Fuller

Pickpick

How do you go on living if the worst thing happens to you?Fuller writes with passion and intensity about the death of her son Fi. Deeply moving but also witty, it is her grief journey she shares with us - it‘s not always doom& gloom. ♥️
