Trying to get back into posting my reads. This is my most recent finish and oh. My. God it was so good! From debut author, Megan Lally this book was intense with its twists and turns. I thought I had the “twist ending” guessed from the synopsis but I was wrong and was gutted by the end. AaaaaAAAAAAAAAH!!! God, Angeline Boulley is good at weaving tons of threads together into one lush story. Perry had an excellent voice and a great journey, and I had no clue who was behind any of the mysteries. And the links to Firekeeper's Daughter were fun, too! Has Ally Carter ever gotten darker in a book? So many double-crosses, so much adventure, but also an ending everyone deserves, for good or for bad. I wish Grace had had a little more formal mental health support, but damn, I'm ultimately not complaining. #reread #yalit #yathriller

Layers and layers of intrigue topped off with an excellent unreliable narrator. I think Grace is Carter's darkest-humored heroine, which is an interesting change from her other books, too. The amateur teenage espionage crew grows, as well! #reread #yalit #yathriller

God, Ally Carter writes teenage girls in action situations well. Grace's mental health (or occasional lack thereof) is believable and heightens the tension perfectly, and I just love her motley crew of friends on Embassy Row. This #YAThriller opens with best friends Cam and Blair starting a podcast for their junior year journalism class. Cam latches onto the idea of using the town‘s biggest mystery- the disappearance twenty years ago of recent high school student, Clarissa- as their subject. Fast-paced but with some head-hopping, this makes for an entertaining and exciting debut! I liked the relationships between the characters and the mystery is well-plotted!

The way I didn't see a single one of these plot twists coming, my God. What a tragedy. What beautifully complicated characters. This was good, y'all. #yalit #yathriller

Another one where I felt like the story didn't go deep enough. The focus on anti-Asian racism was timely, but there was at least one plot hole that made the mystery not work for me.
