Special Christmas | Francine Pascal

Pickpick

This is a fun SVH Christmas book. Todd is still in Vermont & is coming to see Liz over the break. But she‘s not sure if they still have that spark anymore. Meanwhile, Suzanne Devlin, who terrorized Liz & her friends the last time she visited, is coming for Christmas. She says she‘s changed & is sorry & wants to make it up to everyone, but Jess doesn‘t buy it. She comes up with some pretty mean pranks to try to get her to leave. But Suzanne has ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 A secret: she has multiple sclerosis & doesn‘t want anyone to know. One of Jess‘s pranks backfires badly when Suzanne mixes champagne & her experimental medication & she wrecks the Fiat. Oh, & she & Todd kind of have a thing for each other & Liz gives her blessing in the end. Oh oh, & she doesn‘t actually have MS, the doctors misdiagnosed her & she will be fine. I expect nothing less from Sweet Valley. 😆 4⭐️ 80 points 5d

JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS have you read this one? I was shook when I got to the part where the twins, Steven & Suzanne are getting ready to leave for a Christmas party & the Wakefield Parentals gave them a bottle of champagne! I have zero recollection of that lol. Don‘t remember them ever doing something like that 😳 5d
TorieStorieS I haven‘t read this one in probably 20 years!! And while I do remember Suzanne Devlin, I totally don‘t remember the champagne!! 🍾 🤯 4d
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS I had only read it once before, 8 years ago when I was doing my SVH read-through, and I really don‘t remember that. I guess it‘s just a plot device, because Suzanne crashed the Fiat after drinking the champagne mixed with her medication. It was just so weird seeing the Wakefields nonchalantly leave their kids a bottle of champagne 😆 4d

Bina and Darcy explore the roles that friendship and loyalty play in their newly formed band. I enjoyed watching Bina explore her creative process as she starts to have trouble writing songs. Even without having read the first volume (because this was a random library pick for me), I enjoyed this middle grade book. #Friendship #Music

Squished: A Graphic Novel | Megan Wagner Lloyd

This is a story published in 2023 about an eleven-year-old girl named Avery. She feels squished and invisible being surrounded by her six siblings. She helps and takes care of her other siblings when she can. This can be seen in the classroom with students who are in this situation. They feel invisible and may feel overstimulated with all that is expected of them. This is a story to read to help students who feel invisible to feel seen.

I really enjoyed reading this book. This book is relatable to students who feel invisible and unheard. This story is geared towards higher grades with students who have more responsibility within their family and community.

@karisimo

Most of Duncan's books fit this category, and I still find her relevant today. Anyone remember I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER? This one is a fave of mine.

Karisimo I remember the movie 😬! 2mo

I think this book would be great to teach about family types and the challenges of growing up. I think it also teaches important themes of individuality and could be used to teach about finding your own voice and being unique

This book describes a girl named maggie who shares her journey of being the middle child in a big family. It brings humorous insights on Maggies interactions with her family and is a great read!

It‘s time for the alternate cover of the day! 😆

In all seriousness, please send prayers and/or good vibes this way. I live in central Florida and am freaking out about this monster hurricane headed this way. We‘re hunkering down at home and I‘ve got 3 kindles filled with books to keep me distracted. Any of my Litsy friends who are in the line of this storm, I‘m thinking of you and praying.

Happy reading!
