My husband and I finished this one over the weekend. It took longer than usual because we took turns reading it to each other, but it was worth the wait. Another excellent book about Emily and Wendell! The plots in this series continue to get more and more complex. I‘d say this was three times more complex as the first one. So much happens in this one. I will definitely have to reread someday. Highly recommended!

A short but memorable Hugo novella nominee. I finished the book earlier today and the themes have been playing in my mind all day. Which is a more powerful method of control: a heavy physical chain full of tangible links or an invisible one that can be pulled tight without warning? For so few pages there are many layers that I want to peel away via discussion with the author.

Currently my top pick for the #hugoaward novella selection.

Not much going on except finals this weekend. I finished my exam this morning. I‘m slogging through my project the next two days. This is one of those classes where I‘ll be glad with an A- (which in my program is 96%).

This hilarious epistolary novel is full of snark, literary references, and a surprising amount of heart.

Jason Fitger is a lit/creative writing professor at a small college and he is plagued with requests for letters of recommendations for students and colleagues. He is also on a mission to get his star pupil published, get in his ex-wife‘s good graces, and make everybody hate the economics department as much as he does.

Another fun installment of the series. I like how mismatched Wendell and Emily are because it's always entertaining. Emily is her scholarly self and can't help but research her way into more trouble.

I stalled in reading this because of personal stuff, but today seemed like the right day to get back to it. I read 150 pages of it in two big gulps, as usual with these books. It feels like a good place to leave the series, though I'm actually not sure if it's meant as a conclusion or not.

It was my #DoubleSpin book, though it still leaves me in search of a #BookSpinBingo. I really am not doing it on purpose this time...!

I thought Emily's conviction that Faerie is structured not just on rules and traditions but on stories to be a fascinating idea. It's also interesting to see her have to defer to Wendell for once, as this is his realm and his family they are dealing with.

Looking forward to seeing more of these characters, and curious as to where Fawcett will go now that she's covered encyclopedias, maps, and story compilations!

"If there is one subject upon which Wendell and I shall never agree, it is the wisdom of attempting to drag a cat into Faerie."

Or anywhere, as someone who owns a cat can attest!
