Brilliant Women: 18th-century Bluestockings | Elizabeth Eger, Lucy Peltz

Pickpick

The majority of this book follows the rise of the Bluestockings, intellectual women, and the swift backlash against them. It also includes female painters and their struggles. The last chapter discusses the legacy of the Bluestockings and mentions novel writers, such as Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. Interesting read for those concerned with the women who struggled for intellectual equality and the need for women to be educated. #boutofbooks

My haul from NYC a couple weeks ago. John Darnielle's first book, Homegoing and The War of Art from #thestrand, The Fever from #housingworks and Brown Girl Dreaming from #bluestockings. And with the addition of these books I officially need a new bookshelf 📚📚📚
