Br. Eadulf & Fidelma of Cashel are enroute to meet up with a childhood friend of Eadulf‘s,Br.Botulf, who is at Aldred‘s Abbey. When they arrive, they find Br.Botulf has been murdered.Ghosts lurk in the Abbey, & the evil murderer of men,the Abbott Ciln,is terrified of them.He is slowly going insane by the hauntings.
Em is not impressed with this tale.I found Eadulf to be rather unlikable-he was grouchy, irritable, arrogant.

Home today due to allergies- lucky me, I am a reader!

mcctrish I swear my allergies have been the worst this year 2w
Suet624 I have weird reactions to allergies and often forget that that‘s the issue I‘m struggling through. Finally took a Claritin yesterday and my life changed for the better. 2w
TheSpineView Yuck.. allergies! 🤧 2w

🌀 this book opened doors that I‘m still learning how to walk-through. & for that, I know I‘ll be returning to it‘s pages later on in life. I feel it reaching toward me, but there are pieces I know I‘ll understand more deeply with time and experience. #nonfiction #audiobook #feminism #naturalitsy #reading #bibliophile #uncommon

📚Reading Reflections At78%📚
As powerful as Blackie's words are- I have a problem with such stark contrast between lyrical storytelling & the raw, messy edges of everyday life...
However, I admire that she shares voices of other women, offering #ecofeminism & real-life examples of how we can shape our own journey & bring that wisdom back into your immediate world.

Found this re-telling of The Grimm' s "Six Swans" to be compelling and evocative. There was beautiful world building and Sorcha, the heroine, was strong. I found the last few chapters dragged. The fairy tale was complete so they were dedicated to completing the love story and I'm not much of a romance reader.
Still, it was good. And I think I'll take a break from fairy tales for a while.

vivastory 👋👋 Hope you are well 2mo
merelybookish @vivastory Yes! Heading to London on Friday so excited about that! How are you? 2mo
vivastory That *is* exciting. I hope you have a great time 💙 I'm doing well. Doing my best to carry on with all of the nonsense in the world. I'm sure you know how it is. Reading a Lethem doorstop of a novel, packed with life and wild characters (Fortress of Solitude,) and today started an interesting book of short stories by Proulx: Bad Dirt (edited) 2mo
merelybookish @vivastory I voted in the Canadian election today. Hoping the nonsense candidate doesn't win here too. I started The Safekeep which is on the Women's Fiction prize shortlist. I also am trying to decide what to take on the airplane. 2mo
vivastory Keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞 I see that The Safekeep was published last year but for some reason it seems like it was a few years ago 2mo

This very simple and charming story is about a girl who is sent back to the islands of her birth to live with her grandparents. She has vague memories of her time there, but one very strong one: her baby brother being swept out to see in his boat-like cradle. She is determined to find out what became of him.

I really wanted to love this. I do love the term hagitude and I am finally embracing my cronehood. But there was too much psychology and not enough mythology for me. And then the author states that there should be gathering places for women who were born as women, basically saying that it's OK to exclude trans folx in certain cases. So yeah, not great. We don't all need the exact same experience to relate.

Soscha Wowed the cover though. 2mo
PirateJenny @Soscha yeah it's a great cover and I love the chapter opener illustrations. 2mo

April‘s #DoubleSpin is clear—and is also my #44 pick for #50x50. For my #BookSpin, I get to pick a book published in the 1950s—70s for #192025. Above are the three I‘m thinking about… any recommendations?

Suet624 Yay for Anam Cara. I‘ve only read A Separate Peace (as a teenager) out of the three and I liked it. (edited) 2mo
TheBookHippie I like them all 👀🤫🙃 2mo
BarbaraJean @Suet624 I'm really looking forward to Anam Cara. It's been on my list for so long and it's nice to have the “assignment“ to read it! @TheBookHippie Good news is I'll be reading them all at some point before the end of the year!! 2mo

TheAromaofBooks Oh Black Sheep is one of my favorite Heyer romances!! 2mo
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks Oh, that‘s good to know! I‘ve been leaning toward Black Sheep anyway because I‘m pretty sure that will be a nice escapist read—the other two, not so much 😆 2mo
