My topics bookclub is reading “childhood favorites” for January, so I reached for this. I hadn‘t read it before, but I have watched the movie many many times.

It started kind of slowly and I didn‘t care for the writing style at first, but once Jen leaves the valley of the urRu it picks up and gets better.

It‘s not exactly like the movie, but only very minor differences. I liked it, but the movie is better in my opinion. Venkman agrees 😺

Leftcoastzen So cute!😻 1y
bookishbitch Did you ever watch the new show? I thought it was excellent. I've read some of the graphic novels and really liked them too. I've watched this movie so many times! I also just ordered a book called The Shadow Glass which sounds intriguing. 1y
Soubhiville @bookishbitch I did watch the show and liked it 😊. I‘ve only read the creation myth GN, but I‘d read more if I come across them. I got The Shadow Glass for Xmas and plan to read it in Jan! 1y

For some reason I decided I needed some Dark Crystal books and ordered these this weekend. I‘ve no idea how that came into my head, but I guess I‘ll have some Gelflings in my reading life soon. 🤣🤷‍♀️📚

Powered_By_Plants 🤩 loved the film as a kid ... aughra and skeksis really freaked me out but loved it . I hadn‘t realised it was a book! 3y
Soubhiville @Powered_By_Plants the movie came first, then s novelization was written. ❤️. I was just as freaked out! Also by those giant beetle creatures! 3y

I'm a huge Jim Henson fan and I absolutely love the strange, unique world of The Dark Crystal.

This graphic novel explores where the crystal comes from and is a bit of a background to the movie. The artwork was great and felt very Henson-like.

If you aren't a fan of the movie, you probably won't enjoy this one. For fans though, it's pure nostalgia.

This is the final volume from The Power of the Dark Crystal series. It was nice ending and I enjoyed heading back into Thra. Also the artwork is amazing 💜

LibrarianRyan I agree. I‘ve read book 1 of the spin off, Beneath the Dark Crystal, but not the rest yet. 4y
BookwormAHN @LibrarianRyan I haven't gotten to those yet but I plan to 😺 4y

Another excellent issue! I love the dynamic where Hup knows the Gelfling language and some gelflings know Podling, so we frequently see two characters speaking different languages and being on the same page in their conversation. #darkcrystal #comic #fantasy

A new story starts in this issue, and I'm delighted. I've already watched the Netflix series, so I'm delighted to see the begining of Hup's adventures in becoming a paladin! #darkcrystal #fantasy
