It‘s funny, I used these same books and a similar shot two years ago for a prompt & only realized it when I went to post this one. 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, I reviewed this book series for a book tour, drawn in by the Downton Abbey-like setting & family. In this sweeping saga I‘m sure at least one person wondered #DidIMakeTheMostOfLovingYou ?

Cinfhen Funny how our brains work 2mo
CrowCAH Certainly off the cover models seems to take place during the same time period as Downton Abbey! 2mo

#SoaringScores #DidIMakeTheMostOfLovingYou #DowntonAbbey #JohnLunn

For today‘s prompt I went with the “upstairs/downstairs” vibe and went with the Bennett‘s servants at Longbourn!

The Downtown Abbey movie was super nice, feel good, and had me tearing up at the end.

CoverToCoverGirl Loved this book. It has a permanent place in my library. 2mo
AlaMich @CoverToCoverGirl I loved Longbourn too. I read it even before I read P&P, so I had no background knowledge and I still loved it. 2mo
Cinfhen I‘ve seen wonderful reviews for this book! Good choice 2mo

Zelma I adored Longbourn, and would have even without the P&P tie-in. It worked so well for me. 2mo
CrowCAH @CoverToCoverGirl great to hear! On my TBR. 2mo
CrowCAH @AlaMich oh wow, interesting. Did it affect your reading of P&P? 2mo
CrowCAH @Cinfhen same here! 2mo
CrowCAH @Zelma good to know. Definitely will be a must read for this P&P/Jane Austen fan! 2mo
AlaMich @CrowCAH not really, because they were very much separate stories. 2mo

#SoaringScores This is actually a review that I‘m posting under a blurb because I feel uncomfortable having to rate a memoir of a dying woman. Julie Yip-Williams was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at age 37. Confronted with such devastating news, Julie began blogging her journey as both a chronicle for her young daughters & a way to channel her rage. She doesn‘t hold back with her anger, fears & often wonders #DidIMakeTheMostOfLovingYou 👇🏼

Cinfhen Julie‘s childhood was equally heartbreaking as she was born blind and was nearly “put to sleep” by her maternal grandmother who was worried caring for a blind child would be too much of a financial & emotional burden for the entire family. My issue with this book was unfortunately Julie was not always sympathetic or likeable (and I feel like an A-hole for saying that) This memoir was just so -so for me. (edited) 2mo
Hooked_on_books You shouldn‘t feel like an a-hole. Not every person in this world is likeable. And sometimes crappy things happen to unlikeable people. It is what it is. My dad was controlling and could be a real jerk and when I would say this when I was younger, some people would get terribly offended (they‘d never met him). Yet they wouldn‘t dispute there are people like this in the world. Better to be honest and tactful and you were both. 2mo
Joyfulmimi I agree with @Hooked_on_books I appreciate you so I do not waste any of my time reading it 2mo

Cinfhen Thank you both for sharing your opinions @Hooked_on_books @Joyfulmimi and making me feel less like a jerk. I agree, crappy things happen to all types of people and I don‘t diminish that Julie Yip was dealt a real shitty hand. I feel sorry for all those that loved and cared for her, and are now left without her. But you can totally skip the book @Joyfulmimi 😉 2mo
Cinfhen And I‘m sorry you had a tough dad @Hooked_on_books I know it‘s not always easy to be honest with ourselves when it comes to acknowledging faults of the people we are meant to admire 2mo
Hooked_on_books Thanks, but it‘s no big deal. Many people have dealt with way worse than I did. I was just glad I figured out a way to have a relationship with him while shielding myself from his more negative attributes. My sister never figured that out and I predict she‘ll carry that anger forever. It‘s sad, really. 2mo
TrishB Think you‘ve been fair and honest💕 2mo
Cinfhen Thank you @TrishB I wanted to love this memoir but it was a tough one 🙁 2mo
CrowCAH Oh wow for one so young. Sounds like a touching story. 2mo
Reviewsbylola I agree Cindy. I liked this one but there wasn‘t much of a connection. Still heartbreaking though. 1mo
Cinfhen I think I remember you feeling disconnected as well @Reviewsbylola those poor girls 😭😭😭 1mo

Can‘t say too much without giving away the major plot line but I think that Augusta wonders #didImakethemostoflovingyou in this book.....

One of my favourites so far this year....

TrishB This was a lovely little surprise this book ♥️ 2mo

@Mdargusch passed this one on to me after she read it a few years ago. I absolutely loved it—a fictionalized account of a murder wherein the dead bride supposedly comes to her mother after death and tells her that she was murdered by her new husband?! Yes please! This really happened (the circumstances—not the actual haunting. Unless it really did. 😆 #skeptic) Google Greenbrier Ghost. #soaringscores #didimakethemostoflovingyou

Hollie Yes! I talk about this in class and the students are always like wtf when I tell them they allowed testimony from the murder victims ghost into the courtroom 😂 2mo
Reviewsbylola I‘m using this one for #personofcolorMCparanormal. Half of the book is told from the perspective of one of the attorneys that defended the ghost‘s husband, and the attorney was a POC. @cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage 2mo
emtobiasz They told this story on an episode I just watched of the show Drunk History! 📺 2mo

So I had to look up where #DidIMakeTheMostOfLovingYou came from, but now I know, I thought of this sweet little feel-good book about a group of strangers who slowly become friends and help each other get through the hard times they‘ve all faced.
