pickMy first Joe Abercrombie (despite having one of his trilogies on my shelf 😬).
It was a little formulaic for me at first, with non-stop action and Abercrombie‘s voice was loud and clear in the narration, but I eventually settled in. Not a lot of development, but I did enjoy the characters and the sarcasm that came with such a distinct writing style. By the end, I was invested and thoroughly enjoyed it.
pickA monk, a werewolf, an elf, a vampire, a necromancer, a woman who has had every job in the world, and a warrior who cannot die make up the Chapel of the Holy Expediency. Their latest mission is to escort a street thief who is believed to be the long lost heir to the throne of Troy. It is a fun, swashbuckling adventure with lots of violence and plenty of dark humor, much of it directed at the Catholic church.
pickThis is fun and sort of ridiculous and I kind of loved it.

pickAn amazing read! The fantasy was great, the action was great, the dark humour was great! I hear that this might be the start of a series, if so I‘m all in! This was my first book by Joe Abercrombie, but definitely not my last!

I‘m having to eat my words on my last post about The Devils. I do understand the divisiveness surrounding it now. And, honestly, I‘m a bit irritated. It was a slow character driven book but it felt like it was building to a big ending. And it tried. But it was the most obvious plot twist and I guessed it from the very beginning. It felt like it was all for nothing. And it could have been about a hundred pages shorter.
