Pickpick

I got this book for free, in exchange for my honest opinion via L. Ross Coulter .
In a world gripped by the Vitruvian Elite, Will, a young rebel, discovers the greatest battle between darkness and light is within himself. Will he succumb to rage, or will he embrace his compassion? This is a thrilling fantasy adventure that draws you in from the first sentence…

Mehso-so

137/150 I will be nice and say that this is "heavily influenced" by Tolkien and Lord of the Rings. It's not a direct ripoff, but there are so many parallels that you can't help but have an overwhelming sense of deja vu. That alone doesn't make it a so-so book, but the writing is bland, more telling than showing. The Brothers Hildebrandt are amazing artists, as seen from the paintings and drawings that illustrate the novel, but as writers ⬇️⬇️

RamsFan1963 they leave a bit to be desired. The middle drags on too long, so even at 405 pages, the ending is rushed and chaotic. 3.25/5 4mo

My February pick for best read. I adore Renille and Jathondi and would gladly read more books featuring them. 🥰

On the morning of Hugh Oxhine's departure from his home high in the Bolgad Mountains of Vandor, the slanting rays of the spring sun glistened on the snowcapped peaks.

Rebel Fire | Ann Sei Lin

The second in Ann Sei Lin‘s YA fantasy trilogy delves into the mythology of Lin‘s world, especially the backstory for Kurara and Haru and includes some heart breaking scenes as Lin also explores the bond between shikigami and Crafter and what it really means. However Tomoe and Sayo are very much bit players here and while I enjoyed the character development for Himura, Tsukimi remains too broadly painted to be a credible antagonist.
