Probably my favorite in the series so far. We start to see the characters mature and grow. Still some "these characters are so stubborn" redundancy. But not overly annoying yet. I liked that we got to hear a little bit more about the current state of the Two Rivers (I had been wondering). And that we got to learn a bit more about Aiel culture. Jordan clearly put a lot of thought into making distinct cultures for all the regions/countries.

CSeydel I‘m currently reading this one too - just about 100 pages from the end. Great review, totally agree. 2d

A soft pick. This series has become more engaging as it continues. I forgot to do a review of this one and am already on Book 5. With this series, I think there are a lot of plot holes or things that aren't necessarily explained well. But I enjoy how the characters are written. They all have distinct personalities and it is interesting to see how they struggle with various situations where it is not immediately clear what's the "right" thing to do

A friend recently gave me a bunch of his mom‘s costume jewelry. She had a huge, loud collection that I‘ve started to transform into suncatchers and wrist tethers for phones.

I‘m so, so close to the end of DUST OF DREAMS. While the series has featured rape from the get-go, this instalment feels ESPECIALLY rapey, with plenty of misogynistic overtones even when people aren‘t violating each other. That‘s soured me on the whole thing. #audiocrafting

xicanti Now I‘m off to scrub mold off a wall, which is a much more appropriate thing to do while listening to a book like this one. 3d
ImperfectCJ Wow, I just put a bunch of costume jewelry aside to give away (my kids have outgrown using it for dress-up). I never thought about repurposing it like this! I might have to dig back through the giveaway box... 3d
xicanti @ImperfectCJ it‘s been fun to think of how the different pieces can fit together! I‘m really looking forward to making more suncatchers, since there are a lot of shimmering, translucent beads in the collection. 3d

SpeculativeFemale I keep thinking about making fun glasses chains out of jewelry like that. Haven't tried it yet. All my jewelry making supplies are in storage for the time being. Just no room at the moment. 🫤 3d
xicanti @SpeculativeFemale that‘s the thing with projects like this. You need space to spread out. 3d
humouress Maybe even rain-chains, if you've got some big pieces that can take the weather? 2d
humouress 😱 I did not know that about 'Malazan'. The first book was fun and I've managed to get around to borrowing the second - but maybe I'll stop there. Thanks for the heads-up. 2d
xicanti @humouress ooh, I hadn‘t heard of rain chains before, but I like the look of them! I‘ll see if there‘s anything hardy enough. A few components might turn into wind chimes, too. 1d
xicanti @humouress yeah. 😔 There‘s lots of other stuff between the rapes, of course, but I think most of the books lean into it to one extent or another. There‘s also plenty of other violence against women, on top of the wartime atrocities against everybody. 1d

I took a break from manual labour to make apple cheddar scones. They‘re not so photogenic, but they sure do taste good. #audiobaking

I‘ve done so much manual labour this weekend that I‘m 36% into DUST OF DREAMS, a 44-hour audiobook, after only two days. Even at 3x, that‘s a LOT.

Also, all my muscles are sore. Like, really, ALL of them.

When I wasn‘t manually labouring, I also managed to finish this book nook I lucked into at the local Amazon returns store. It was only $10, instead of $50-70! Good times. #audiocrafting

I‘ve been reluctant to try #audiocycling in case my earbuds pop out due to bumpy roads and/or extreme sweat, but I had a 70-minute ride home tonight and I really want to finish TOLL THE HOUNDS, so I gave it a go. My earbuds stayed in and I‘m now at 83% with the book. The end is in sight!

monalyisha What gorgeous colors! 🩵💚 3w
Kenyazero Nice! Are your earbuds wireless? I have a leash that wraps around mine and just rests around my neck in case they pop out. It‘s not intrusive and just connects them together. 3w
xicanti @monalyisha I kept expecting that deep blue sky to rain on me, but it held off! 3w
xicanti @Kenyazero yep, they‘re wireless, but they have such a sleek, basic design that I don‘t think I could hook anything around them to hold them in place. When I exercise indoors I wear a headscarf that covers them and keeps them from popping out, but that gets really, really hot outdoors, with my helmet overtop it. 3w
Kenyazero @xicanti rats! Mine have stems, so they can be leashed 🤭 I‘m glad you experimented with riding and listening! 3w

Got through 14% of TOLL THE HOUNDS while I installed my tiny loft‘s tree, connected the lights, baked Ted Lasso‘s iconic shortbread biscuits, and threw a batch of apple cheddar scones in the oven to boot because hey, it was already warm.

I felt very much like diving into this book at the start of the month, but someone borrowed it just when I was ready, then kept it out a full 21 days. I‘m no longer in quite the right mood, but I persevere.

Another solid installment in this epic fantasy series. Though full of action, it still has that middle book feel where nothing is fully resolved. Still enjoyable overall. 4⭐️
