I have heard lit fiction referred to as a genre. I don't nec agree with this, for various reasons. I will say that I personally think that there are few (minor) differences between lit fiction & genre fiction, but there are genre writers who are as talented as those who have been widely acknowledged in literary fiction & deserve to be recognized as such.
