Safiya and Iseult are badass heroines and they are my #favoritenewcharacters of 2017! They are also way more fun to hang out with than your stuffy coworkers when you #dontwanttogototheofficeparty.

Things Fall Apart | Chinua Achebe

I think I must have odd taste in characters. These were two of my #favoritenewcharacters from books I read this year - Ekwefi from Things Fall Apart and Lenina from Brave New World. I wrote papers on both of them. One professor said she‘d never had anyone write on Ekwefi before, and the other said she‘d never had anyone argue that Lenina was actually a hero. I backed myself up with a ton of evidence, though. 😂#allthebooksof2017

DGRachel As long as you can back it up, you‘re golden! 6y

The Cleaner | Mark Dawson

Love the character John Milton created by Mark Dawson. John is a professional assassin but wants to get out of the business but the organisation won‘t let him and want to erase him. He tries to stay incognito but struggles as he feels duty bound to help those in need. Read the first three books in the series this year, loved them and keen to continue the series. #allthebokksof2017 #favouritenewcharacters #favoritenewcharacters

TrishB Not another series 😁👍🏻 6y
Andrew65 That‘s my illness, I‘ve got so many series on the go @TrishB . I set out to finish some series this year, which I have done, but have started more series than I finished in 2017 (I think). I usually do a check of how many series I have on the go ready for the start of the new year. Watch this space. 😬 6y
TrishB I shall have a look! I‘ve got way to many on the go and am going to try and actually catch up with some in the New Year.....she says 😁 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB That will be my aim again too. 6y

Reincarnation Blues | Michael Poore

My #FavoriteNewCharacters from #AlltheBooksOf2017 are:

Blunderbuss, a fiercely loyal, crocheted combat-wombat (“The Boy Who Lost Fairyland”); Juliet, an earnest & anxious Puerto Rican, lesbian book nerd from the Bronx (“Juliet Takes a Breath”); Death, a metaphysical body tryin‘ to keep it real & save the whales - & humanity (“Reincarnation Blues”); & Sarah Vowell, a real-life person but also, inarguably, a character (“Assassination Vacation”).

monalyisha @Cinfhen I think this started with you! 6y

#AlltheBooksOf2017 #FavoriteNewcharacters Here are three guys who found a place in my heart this reading year...Cyril from HIF, Leo from History of Love & the protagonist of Michel Chabon‘s semi autobiographical novel Moonglow ❤️❤️❤️ I have a soft spot for grumpy old man, who are really just misunderstood teddy bears 🐻 These celebs are sort of who I imagined as I read these novels.... Conan O‘ Brien, Jerry Stiller & Lee Cobb. Images from Google

KarenUK Leo! 💕💕💕💕.... Love your casting! (edited) 6y
Billypar This may be the first time I've seen Lee Cobb mentioned outside of discussion about one of his films. Great actor- looks like you got a pic from one of his nicer characters 🙂 6y
Cinfhen Ha!!! @Billypar he just screams 1950's old time Jewish gangster 😉 6y

Reviewsbylola I feel like I imagine Jerry Stiller in my head whenever I read about a funny, grumpy old man. 😂😂 6y
EvieBee Jerry Stiller is spot on! That‘s the way I imagined him, and he‘s Jewish! 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @EvieBee @Reviewsbylola Jerry Stiller will always be the "funny, grumpy old man" and such an iconic "Jewish" figure 6y
Cathythoughts 👍❤️❤️ I think I‘ve only seen Jerry Stiller in Seinfeld, but I loved his role in this so much. Excellent (edited) 6y
