Tinks
Jumanji | Chris Van Allsburg

Pickpick

I love the movie and enjoyed the book even more. Jumanji written & illustrated by: Chris Van Allsburg is a wonderful picture book that has adventure, daring & frightful experiences as well as some life lesson along the way. A book that will have you wanting more. I believe this book is best under MF, RF due to the nature of the book. UDL 4.1 regarding vary the nature for response & navigation along with EL 3 for encourage self talk.#UCFLAE3414F19

Tinks This Picture book was awarded the Caldecott medal and should be added to all elementary classroom libraries as well as be equally read any age group who enjoyed the aspect of the movie. It goes along with school curriculum standards and can be used for a think-aloud as comprehension and fluency teachings. #UCFLAE3414F19 3w
DrSpalding With the new movie coming out, teacher should be using this picture book in their classrooms! This is a great time to perform an author study about this amazing author. 2d

Two siblings find an abandoned boardgame one day. After starting, they quickly realize the game isn‘t normal when lions and monkeys and all sorts of jungle dangers begin appearing in their house. This MF makes it feel as if the reader is caught in the action alongside the two siblings as they rush through the dangers, trying to win the game so everything can return back to normal. Caldecott

kgarzon This PB would be great for SR since there are many opportunities to analyze the text in real-time with students. http://www.houghtonmifflinbooks.com/features/thepolarexpress/tg/jumanji.shtml
This guide details a writing assignment where students can observe the descriptive language and strong verbs that the author used, discerning how it makes the story more engaging vs “boring” verbs. They can incorporate strong verbs into their own writing.

kgarzon UDL Principle 3.3 (Guide information processing, visualization, and manipulation) is demonstrated with how the teacher guides students in visualizing the strong verbs in action. EL strategy 12 (teach to two objectives, language and content) can be used due to the nature of SR: students and the teacher can revisit this same book multiple times to address a different lesson, alternating between focusing on the language or the content of the story. 1mo
DrSpalding The second movie is coming out which will cause more children to be familiar with the book. Savvy teachers should be sharing his work and possibly performing an author study. I like the idea of shared reading and I love the idea of using more engaging verbs in their writing. 2d

We‘ve got another fun game thanks to the lovely @Stacypatrice !! This will be an ongoing game, played in the comments. I will start it off by asking a “would you rather” question. The next person answers my question and asks a “would you rather” question of their own... so on and so forth. The only rule is you cannot answer your own question and therefor would not comment twice in a row. Ready! Set! GAME ON! #TeamSlaughter!

Clwojick Would you rather visit the basement of a haunted house, or get trapped in a house or mirrors? 2mo

Linsy @Lizpixie Stay in a morgue! Would you rather be embalmed while alive or buried alive? (edited) 2mo
madamereadsalot1 @Linsy Embalmed. Death would quicker. Would you rather eat monkey brains while still alive or a bowl full of raw cow eyes? 2mo
Linsy @madamereadsalot1 Cow eyes! Brains sound like they‘d do more damage. Would you rather live with snakes (out of cages) or walk through a haunted forest on your way to work every day? 2mo
madamereadsalot1 @Linsy hate snakes! So forest all the way. Would you rather slow dance with a dead body or swim in a pool of snakes? 2mo
i-am-papercrane Swim in a pool of snakes. Dead bodies are heavy! And snakes are pretty chill. Would you rather be dissected alive or burned alive? 2mo
Linsy @i-am-papercrane Burned alive! I‘m afraid I‘d be aware of every detail with the dissection. Would you rather be forced to read the same awful book forever or never read again? 2mo
Stacypatrice @Linsy - That‘s a hard one! Never read again. Would you rather suck a Zombie‘s toes or lick a Cannibal‘s lips? 2mo
Charityann The same awful book forever, at least you be reading words. You rearrange them into your own story. Would you rather go sky diving or scuba diving? 2mo
madamereadsalot1 @Stacypatrice Cannible lips! Would you rather eat pickled human toes or fried human ears? 2mo
Clwojick @madamereadsalot1 Ears! Would you rather be stuck reading the same genre forever, or never reading your favourite author again? 2mo
4thhouseontheleft @Clwojick Never read your favorite author again, since there are so many great authors out there! Would you rather be a vampire or a werewolf? 2mo
Clwojick @4thhouseontheleft VAMPIRE! Would you rather only eat chocolate, or only eat candy? 2mo
madamereadsalot1 @Clwojick Chocolate! Would you rather have to spend every weekend out at large parties or only stay at home every weekend? 2mo
4thhouseontheleft @madamereadsalot1 Stay home!! Hands down. 😂 Would you rather wear uncomfortable false teeth or an itchy wig all night? 2mo
tjwill @4thhouseontheleft Itchy wig. Would you rather be trapped in a room with rats or have to eat a witch‘s toenails? 2mo
madamereadsalot1 @tjwill ugh. 😱 Toenails I guess. Would you rather bathe in pigs blood or gargle dog slobber? 2mo
Kappadeemom Bathe in pigs blood😫 Would you rather have a million dollars or be invisible? @madamereadsalot1 (edited) 2mo
MoonWitch94 @Kappadeemom a Million dollars! I got student loans that need paying 🤣 Would you rather have your house infested with ants or squirrels 2mo
LokiDokey @MoonWitch94 both sound horrible LOL. I would probably pick ants because I feel like squirrels would do more damage. Would you rather do a sèance in a cemetery or play with a Ouija board in a cemetery? 2mo
CaroPi @LokiDokey I will play the Ouija. But I will be terrify in both cases. Will you rather have the possibility of eating all the food in the world without been overweight or unlimited books to read? 2mo
Clwojick @CaroPi Unlimited books! Would you rather co-narrate a book with your favourite author, or be in a scary movie with your favourite actor/actress??
2mo
LokiDokey @Clwojick I would rather co-narrate a book. Would you rather only have unlimited coffee but it's always decaf or have unlimited wine but it's always non-alcoholic? 2mo
Clwojick @LokiDokey Wow. Thinks are getting dark, are they? I think I would actually rather cut off a finger than do either of those things. Seriously. But if I have to choose, I guess the decafe coffee. But really. Kill me now. 🙈 Would you rather Dress up as a sexy Patrick StarFish or Sexy Spongebob? (edited) 2mo
CaroPi @Clwojick those are terrible costumes! I will say sexy SpongeBob. Will you rather have a tarantula at home or a python snake? 2mo
SomedayAlmost A tarantula. Ugly and a little scary, but I saw them in the wild at Big Bend near the Mexican border and they didn‘t take any shite-from people, larger animals, even vehicles. Fearless! Weirdly inspiring. Question: would you rather work for Jadis the White Witch of Narnia or the Wicked Witch of the West from Oz? @Clwojick (edited) 1mo
