An incredibly brave memoir.

I love the way Allende tells a story - making the political very personal. This isn‘t one of my favourites of hers. While I was riveted by the civil war scenes, the story ended abruptly. It felt unsatisfying.

I was on such a good streak reconnecting with Allende‘s writing in recent years, but this story was not a favorite. I felt it dragged on, I didn‘t feel a connection with any of the characters, and just found the overall story underwhelming.
I did not DNF‘d this out of loyalty to Allende, but it did take me almost 3 months to finish it. Overall, I‘m glad I read it, and hoping I have a better experience with her next book.

#JuneSpecials Day 7: My backdrop looks like a #Prairie of sorts - at the foot of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain - sunflowers in the middle of the desert. My review of Maria Ressa‘s outstanding book here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-pdf

Not a favorite. The Chilean civil war was interesting; the rest not so much.
