It's just over 2 weeks until we start the #AnnaKareninaReadAlong! As I prepare for my 2018 reading challenges I'm finding this book fits perfectly for prompts on several challenges. How about you? Do you need help finding a book in translation, a book set in a BRICS country, an Oprah's Book Club selection, a book over 500 pages, or any number of other prompts? This one fits the bill! Join us if you'd like!

Dragon Thanks @Theresa I‘m ready, I downloaded the iBook 6y
Kristy_K Can‘t wait! 6y
JoRead I think I'm going to do this. I was going to stay sway from any and all reading challenges this year but this is really not a challenge so count me in 😄 6y

Jess_Read_This I can‘t wait!! I am reading Pamela Paul‘s My Life With Bob and there is an Anna Karenina chapter! She says bookish girls mark their lives by periods of character identification. When she went to Thailand after school she was reading Anna Karenina and identified with her isolation from her people, Independence, and nonconformity. Since I haven‘t read the book, I had no clue what she is referencing...but it still made me happy to read it! 6y
Theresa @JoRead I hear you on challenges! I did too many this year & feel burned out. I think I'll just do Book Riot's read harder challenge in 2018. But I still find myself looking at all of them. I can't help myself. It's a problem. 😄 6y
Theresa @Jess_Read_This I've heard great things about that book!! I may have to pick it up after I finish AK. 6y
PurpleyPumpkin I am really looking forward to this! Plan to start reading on January 1st as I recover from New Year‘s festivities. 👍🏽 6y
DrexEdit I might just join you all for this read along. This is definitely a book I want to read and it fits my personal goal of reading more #lengthylit next year! 😊 6y
DrexEdit Sounds like fun! I might join in! 😊 6y
slategreyskies Add me to the list of those who‘ve been wanting to read this!! 6y
sisilia I‘m in !!! DNF it 3x ... I will persevere this time 6y
Theresa @sisilia The fact that you're willing to try again motivates me! We can cheer each other along!! 6y

Don Quixote Deluxe Edition | Miguel de Cervantes, Edith Grossman

When I saw there was a #lengthylit readlaong starting for Don Quixote, I thought 'Super! Now I can finally tackle this classic!' I started with Serial Reader, but quickly tired of the tiny sections, and as always tired of reading in a device. This translation was much more satisfying, full of contextual footnotes that made sense of the puns and allusions that only a scholar of European literature would grasp.

Omg *squeeeeeee* look what came in the mail for me!!! Thank you thank you thank you @Clwojick ! These are gorgeous! Do you print the non-project life ones yourself? I was just going to sit and fo some scrapping today too! Not for me, for someone else so more in traditional style but I can't wait to get around to mine to go through all of these! I can do it while listening to Don Quixote for #lengthylit 😄😍
And beautiful bookmarks! Thank you!

Clwojick Yay! Glad you like them. For the non PL brand cards. I will save pics to my phone from Pinterest etc.and get them printed at Walmart. You can download the app as well to have two 2x3s printed side by side on a 4x6 6y
Andrea4 @Clwojick knowledge is a dangerous thing!!! 😂😂 6y
Clwojick @andrea4 No kidging! That's how I came to have two whole photo boxes full of printed fillers. 🙈😳 6y

#quotsynov17 @TK-421 What a way to die!

Also, got up to chapter 13 today before getting driven a little crazy myself- is this #lengthylit still happening @JoeStalksBeck ?

Spiderfelt I hope so! I've read up to Chapter 11 6y
Andrea4 @Spiderfelt right? 😂 6y
Caterina I'm also in for #lengthylit, so if it isn't happening, perhaps we could make it happen? @Spiderfelt 6y

Andrea4 @Spiderfelt @Caterina I only asked because I know @Tiffy_Reads said she couldn't do this one this time around so I wasn't sure if @JoeStalksBeck was continuing it. But I don't want to start any rumours! 😁 6y
BibliophileMomma I don‘t know if @JoeStalksBeck is continuing it. I‘m not really doing the #Lengthylit anymore. It got to the point that I felt like I was being bogged down by the schedule and the lengthy ones just took a toll on me. 6y
BibliophileMomma I am going to continue doing the #buddyread i started a long time ago because I love it. 6y
Andrea4 @Tiffy_Reads makes complete sense! 6y
Spiderfelt It sounds like you made a healthy decision @Tiffy_Reads 6y
Spiderfelt @andrea4 @Caterina I'm not always the best at following along with group discussions. I've only done one buddy read on Litsy for Infinite Jest. It was a large group, so often I read everyone else's comments and then couldn't find anything original to contribute. Reading the first 100 pages of Don Quixote might be enough for me, though I've enjoyed it more since switching from Serial Reader to the Edith Grossman translation. 6y

Pickpick

I think most people reading this for #lengthylit have not enjoyed it, which worried me because I‘d read it when it first came out and remembered liking it. I still liked it on this reread. It‘s a slow creeping dread that permeates the atmosphere in this book more than actual out-and-out horror, and the ending is not quite a satisfying one, but it‘s still good.

#Buddyread anyone? @TricksyTails is putting one together for this amazing book. I read it this summer and LOVED it! So if you're interested in catching it before its adaptation hits TV, got to @TricksyTails page and let her know. ❤️📚

Sace That's one in my TBR list. I'm not sure if I can do buddy reads on schedule, but I sure like lurking and reading the posts. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @RestlessFickleBookSlut Know what you mean, especially since this is a long one. 6y
SkeletonKey I really need to read it, I've got the paperback. What are the consequences if you can't keep up 😂 6y

moranadatter I‘m not great at buddy reads, but I‘ve been planning to read this next month so I‘m willing to give it a try. 6y
LibrarianRyan I might depending on schedule. I just commuted to a buddy read of in Nov. 6y
MinDea Thanks for posting for us! 6y
TricksyTails Thank you for posting this! ☺️ 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @SkeletonKey We hunt you down ... nah, it's all in fun so I'd say the only consequence is that you finish behind the group. Maybe some spoilers might sneak into your feed! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @moranadatter It's so good. I hope you enjoy it! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @LibrarianRyan I hear ya. I tend to over commit myself sometimes. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MinDea @TricksyTails You're welcome! It's a great book for a #buddyread or #lengthylit. 6y
SkeletonKey Okay, looks like I'm down then :) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @SkeletonKey Don't forget to follow @TricksyTails for all the details! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa It is on my list to read. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa It's so good! I did part audio and part ebook, which helped if feel less overwhelming. I know you do this sometimes also. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I do, especially with some non-fictions, or memoir read by the author. 6y
