I did not #lookbackinanger when this book arrived sans autograph. Hey it was still a free book. Then Thursday I got a signed book plate in the mail with a note about it being left out. It's all cool. #septembowie

#catchingup on #awesomeautumnbooks #day27 / #septembowie #day24 / #fallintobooks #day24 - #shhsecrets / #lookbackinanger / #stuckinthepast

A book about traumatic pasts and secrets coming back to haunt people. Haven't read yet, unfortunately, but have heard good things.

This #ARC is #upnext. I would say that Anna is #stuckinthepast, has much #sorrow, and must on more than one occasion #lookbackinanger. #septembowie #fallintobooks #multitasking

LeahBergen I obsessively read about Anastasia and Anna Anderson in my teens! 7y
Cinfhen Well played 💚 7y

This was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the prompt. Happy no one else used it! Responsible for the saying "angry young men" . #septembowie #lookbackinanger

Cinfhen Cool! Never knew that! #liveandlearn 7y
batsy Interesting! I used Lucky Jim for a prompt recently and learned that it was one of the novels of the "angry young men" era. Though Amis distanced himself from the label. 7y

#septembowie #LookBackInAnger Six non-fiction books that (in addition to making me sad & frustrated & at least tear😢up if not full on cry😭) made me angry when I read them & make me look back in anger at how the people in them were treated due to things like race, ethnicity, & gender. It's even more frustrating that although the history in these books happened decades ago, this type of treatment, bigotry & discrimination still happens today. 😤😡

I tried to think of a character consumed by the wrongs of the past - and Heathcliff leapt straight to mind. This was my favourite book for a long time but rereading it last year took away some of the magic. I longed for a little compromise!

PS Laurence Olivier is quite lovely in this shot isn‘t he?!

Cinfhen Yes! Quite lovely ‼️I haven't read WH since freshman year of college...might be time for a re-read 7y
Cathythoughts Laurence Olivier is gorgeous here ❤️such grace & even just the ring of his name gets to me ! 7y
Centique @Cathythoughts yes! I love the sound of his name too 😍 7y

The narrator of this novel is definitely one to #lookbackinanger . Forced to leave the U.S. for Canada, he can't help but go on angry political asides after reading about news from the states. You have to wonder if he might consider himself lucky today? 😋 The title character is a friend from the past, and though anger bubbles up in recalling the tragic events that unfold, telling his story serves to calm his rage #septembowie @Marchpane @Cinfhen

#SeptemBowie #day24 #LookBackInAnger The story of the female convicts, transported to the colony in Australia in small, overcrowded ships is not an easy read. Yanked away from their families, country & friends mostly for petty thievery of food to feed those families, they were chained together in the bowels of these ships, abused, beaten & raped, then dumped onto a country that was so different from their home, alone & terrified. I'd be angry too.

Cinfhen Sounds horrifying 😔 7y
