I have read several biographies of Bronson and Louisa, but did not know May(Amy) was a leader in her passion. Not only growing up with Transcendentalists and being offended by her portrayal in her famous sister's book, she knew several renowned artists of her time. I learned so much and stayed on Google to learn more about May's art. She was very independent and did not want Louisa's monetary aid once she was established.

I read this book in high school for two reasons: I had a goal to read all the Newbery books and I loved Little Women.

Bailedbailed

I bailed on Susan Cheever‘s biography of Louisa May Alcott. It jumped all over the place,time-wise,people-wise,idea-wise.Too much about other literary figures of the time:Emerson,Thoreau,Hawthorne,Elizabeth & Sofia Peabody, Margaret Fuller, etc. Not that they are not fascinating figures in & of themselves,& they did influence Louisa, but it felt like the author spent an inordinate amount of verbiage on people & world events. It just felt scrambled.

Hooked_on_books When that happens, I always wonder if the author just couldn‘t find enough that they wanted to include and thus put that in as filler or if they thought that amount of detailed context is necessary. It tends to drive me crazy when authors do that. 10mo

Amusing and interesting! Loved to see how Alcott pulled from her lived experiences to tell stories outside of Little Women, and a couple of her jokes did have me rolling. #essays
